has anyone used S.U carburetors on their goldwing??

omg, why would you? lol never ever want to see those again after owning an Austin Healy, MGB, and Nash metropolitan (beeb beeb)

basicly they're suppose to be great with superchargers....
any feed back on that....????

Check in with this chap, not sure if he is a NGW member or not? ;)

On the serious side, I never had much luck with SUs, they sure did not like the cold weather we get in the winter. Like sunnbobb I had them on MGs, and a Nash Metropolitan(actually my first car). But perhaps others have had better luck.

Is that some sort of 24 cylinder "X" configuration engine in that bike?

Not only his nuts but he can't turn the front wheel either there is a cylinder head or something in the way. Although saying that an old biker friend I haven't seen for must be close on 44 years had a trike with a Jag V12 engine as power plant. He was on British TV with it if I remember right, I wonder if he it still alive.. :wheelchair

Sunnbobb i know what you mean when you mention old austins and mgb, and i agree those old twins were fiddley....
but there also are later SU carburetors with built in floats (not external floats) thats the ones to use....and only need to use one, then theres no messing around trying to get two carbs to flow even...
and just the cheapest way to go....

If you look or search out the old "Bentley Blower" you will see the supercharger is fitted to the crankshaft look, the SU was a 2.5 inch it had two one on each side.

beautifull car that bentley...
cars were very basic compared to todays cars....one valve for fuel and one valve for exhaust...now-days we have multi valve engines and i'm not an expert, but i think thats where most of engine modifications been done ( head porting, valves, induction and exhaust) and cranks and pistons havn't really changed as much...
the goldwing engine is a SOHC and would be about the best as far as i think when it comes to single a valve carburation and exhaust type of engine...
i've had a good look at using a down-draft duel throat webber or similar and they really have to be set up exact...
(remember i'm only interested in supercharging my engine on a tight budget)
now i just want to throw this option on the table as another alternative to the traditional duel-throat webber supercharger set-up

The Early Bentleys didn't have a removable Cylinder head it was cast in with the block and then machined but there are other carb potabilities than just an SU. You could quite as easily use a Stromberg, which although a vacume operated choke was a lot smaller in height than the SU.

see first pic of twin Stromberg's probably off a Volvo 145s they would be typically designated CD125, CD175 etc. then next picture is the SU in cross section Diagram, you can see that the Stromberg is much smaller in height.
