Greetings from East Tennessee!
Actually this is my second neked (southern pronunciation) 'wing. I had a '77 back in '04, then an SEi. Bought a new 1800 in '06 and have close to 80k miles on the Black Pearl. This spring, I bought a sad looking '78 that I discovered had a '75 engine. More disassembly revealed water damage indicating partial submersion for an extended period, at least for the engine. Luckily, no water evidence inside, and only in one cylinder. That has been sorted, and the engine now sits on a dolly waiting for frame work and other items. The wife likes me to have projects, and this should keep me busy for a couple years! Since restoration is out of the picture, I'm working towards cafe-style. Due to her apparent past under water, I have named her "the Hunley" after the first successful operational military submarine, lost with all hands on a successful attack during the war of Northern Aggression off Charleston, SC and discovered/raised about a decade ago.

Re: Greetings from East Tennessee!
Welcome from Michigan.
I too have an engine (I call it my cadaver engine), that has one very rusty bore.
Once I finish dropping my good engine into the frame and get her running, I eventually plan on breaking the cadaver down. Just do not know what to expect when it comes to cracking the CCase open. Number 3 is quite rusted badly and 2 & four bores look pretty good. Engine had leaks from the freeze plugs on the rh side.
Best of luck on the Hunley.
These fellas are very helpful round here.

Have you ever disassembled a watch? Springs, gears and other parts pop out all over the place.NewWinger wrote:Snip: I eventually plan on breaking the cadaver down. Just do not know what to expect when it comes to cracking the CCase open.
Okay, I'm just kidding!

Howdy from Western Canada Mr. pidjones. Get some pictures loaded, when you can, and consider starting a new thread in the 'Members Restorations and Projects' section. Goodluck!

Re: Greetings from East Tennessee!
About as neked as you can get right now.
Cases have a lot of the parts. Today it held off rain long enough for me to finally grind the center stand mount off and smooth the frame some. There is a lot of wiring to go over and replace connectors with new ones soldered and crimped. So much to do, but I'm having a blast doing it!

Re: Greetings from East Tennessee!
At least the front of the engine looks good and clean. I am sure a few of us have taken on 'boxes of parts' and made a bike from them.
Have fun.

Re: Greetings from East Tennessee!
A little taste of what some of it looked like when I started:
I've cleaned the two starboard cylinders and now have good compression. The carbs have been cleaned and reassembled with new elastomers. It has come a long way in the past three months, but still has a long, long, long way to go.
