Weber Carb install question

#1

Post by Millwright »

Good morning Looking for suggestions. I am working my way through the weber carb conversion with Randall's manifolds and I wondered what is available for the spark plug caps? The original caps on the plug wires just do not fit under the new manifold. The caps I took off were XDO5F. I checked the NGK site and they list a replacement for my 1983 standard as the XDO5FP but they probably would be the same length and I would have the same problem with fit. Has anyone identified a replacement cap that maybe is a little shorter in length, allowing the wire to tuck in better?

I haven't read through Randakk's information sent with the manifolds recently....didn't he offer what type of caps to use in there?

Wingrider I had another look and could not see any recomended changes for the plug wire caps, but I did find a chart that shows a little info. on the cap identifiction. The original caps that came with my bike were a XD05F. I am not sure how you would describe the original shape classed as X, other than to long for me. I see that the 90 degree caps (LD05FP) are a lot shorter and might be what I am looking for.The local bike shop had 3 instock, so I ordered another for a set of four to try out. Should help the wires tuck under the manifold a little better.

The stock caps fit in mine and the direct replacement NGK also fit. The photo is with new caps.

Greg thanks for posting the pic. I had another look at my original caps after looking at your picture, and found that the screw that holds the resistor in place and also makes contact with the plug in one cap had come loose. This made the cap stick up almost another 1/4 inch above the boot and contributed to the tight fit.

Thanks

Glad to help.
The reason I ended up with new caps was because the resistors were corroded and junk. (The wires were leaking all over the place so I ended up with new coils too.)
