Fork brace install

I'm thinking about installing a fork brace on my 79 Cafe conversion. Can anyone tell me the fork tube size and the distance between the tubes? Are there any other bikes, Harleys included, that share the same geometry so I have a wider range of braces to pick from? Does anyone have one to sell or know where I can get a faily cheap one? Thanks

Unless it is exactly right you will be inducing stiction at the very least. I know some guys that have access to the correct tools have made their own and I did toy with that but the CNC I had access to was lost in a fire and not replaced. So it was just not worth the effort.

I have never heard of an alternate. I would think the packaging from Super Brace and other like them would have any alternate uses listed on the packaging but they have never said anything but 75-77 GL1000 or 78/79 GL1000. And yes they are different.

I checked Teleflex fork brace application chart HERE and none others that fit the K1 nd K2 GL1000 and only one other that uses their same number as fitting the K3 (79-)
Keep an eye on e-bay they do come up on a regular basis....

Huge!! For me it changes the slow speed handling a lot for many others it changes the higher speed handling. Either way it is a remarkable difference. Basically the tubes for the 1000 are too small (Diameter) and there is too much flex in them. The brace provides a mid point stiffening and makes dramatic improvements in the handling.

they're well worth the money, new or a good used one. I put one on all my 'Wings, just like new belts and a Dyna.

You can check www.fastfromthepast.com for fork brace dimensions and to purchase Tarozzi braces. I refer to their fork brace dimension chart on occassion. The one for the '79 GL1000 shows 37mm fork tube diameter, 60mm mounting diameter, and a 204mm center to center distance. It is priced at $99 which is the standard price for a Tarozzi fork brace.

Tarozzi don't do one for the '75 to 77 GL1000, though '78 and 79 are covered.

My 78 had highly polished forks, so my used Midland didn't really fit (didn't get tight). After some messing with it, I went ahead and cracked one of the outer braces (D'oh!). With some rigging, I got it on, but that probably screwed up spacing, and killed my fork seals. I like the way it made the front end feel.

Just got new-to-me forks that weren't polished. My Superbrace is in the mail. The Telefix one looks nice too, and I could've saved ~$50.

Just got my 'shims' back from the machine shop for my brace and I'm ready for install. Question...is there a set order on tightening everything up as there is about 3 axis of alignment to consider? I've applied Randakk's tech tip on frt fork stiction and was wondering if there is also a procedure for a brace.
Any help much appreciated.
