duke182's -"worlds slowest build thread"

#1

Post by duke182 »

i have been on this site for a little while now and have been really enjoying the place.
there is so much to view and learn that it is hard not to.I
when i joined i figured to glean a few ideas and apply them to my bike, in addition to what i had already done.
well since then i have just about driven myself nuts deciding wether or not to continue on the already choosen path or to take the bike in an entirely new direction.
it would have been easy to alter my view entirely because there are so many great ideas on this site.
what i decided was to follow my original plan and finish the bike according to my first vision of it while incorporating those ideas found here that fit the style i wanted.
so i guess its time to twist the throttle, so to speak, and get this project back underway.

my intention is to chronicle the effort up to and past the first ride as a completed project.
there have been so many great builds here that i dont expect to make an impact, i just want to do it and see what you guys think as it happens.
i expect this to be the slowest build thread on here so i hope ya'll will be patient.
what i hope to get from you is feedback. good or bad. im sure i wont like all your comments or use all your ideas but i am looking forward to them.
i will list and revise my basic list of ideas in this first post and will try to provide plenty of pics along the way.

this is what i have after stripping off lots of stock and broken parts. i didnt have the forthought to take a picture right after i brought it home. i guess i was having to much fun riding the ugly beast.
at this point i have removed the front fender, broken wind shield, crash bars, busted fog lights, blinkers, tail lights, mufflers, center stand, shelter lock and broken ignition switch as well as the shelter , seat, side covers and saddle bags which included extra lights and crash bars for the rear.

I vote that you should paint it your favorite color or match the original color.

And, of course, we will need lots of  pics of the bike and the progress.

well roady,
those listed in the poll are some of my favorite colors and combinations of colors.
so what i figure is this: since paint will be some time in the future, i would let the poll run, and when it is time for paint i would take the number one vote getter or my favorite 'other' opinion and use the opinion of the board to help me make the final decession for this project.
and i hope to meet your expectations of pics and info.
i just hope i dont lose your interest when things get slo. my budget is never constant so progress will most likely come in bursts when time and money is available.
right now im excited as possible about this build. sure hope i can keep it high until completion.

in this picture the shelter has been primed and the lock hole filled. the rear fender has also been bobbed filled and primed.
the rear schock has also bee laid at a different angle to see how it would affect ride height.
the bars are also taller than stock due to 6" dogbone style risers.

Peaked my interest! those are some awesome plans, I think with a list of modifications like that the wilder the paint scheme the better, bright color with bass boat sized flake. But lets see how she pans out before I click a button. Sometimes the build itself decides the color. Regaurdless of how long it takes I will now get notified of updates, so keep em comin. ;)

Bratstyle '80 GS750L "OVERKILL"
Cafe'd '81 CB750C "ROCK-IT"
Basket Case '72 CB450 K5 "NO CLASS"
Resto-Mod '67 BSA Spitfire "STAY CLEAN"

rainstromrider say's I'm "addicted to the build"... I think he might onto something :)

I love the idea of a red/silver bike (I just remembered Doug's Cyborg!) but that fits a more sport bike feel... ditch the red, keep the silver frame and the sky blue would look sick!
