A throttle body/injector in place of the single carb would have the same iceing problems and puddling problems that a carb has.
I want the fuel injectors as close to the intake as possible.

Re: Intake Manifold
My single carb setup has not had any icing problems. I have riden below freezing her in SC. Believe it or not I hit some black ice late one night near home. Nothing to report. Didn't go down but made for an interesting few feet on the road. Anyway never did have any icing issues.

There are a couple of guys posting about FI setups for their wings.

Compared to something like a Volkswagon (with a single carb or throttle body) these bikes don't have very long runners. I looked into: Randakk's Weber manifolds with Jenvey throttle bodies (they make a model that is a direct replacement for weber carbs) with Bosch injectors and a Microsquirt controller. That combination (with peripheral sending units to suit) looks really promising.
I believe that both of the threads above are considering the MicroSquirt unit as a controller. It is open source, very programmable and has a large following and consequently great support. At least one of the NGW members has the injectors in the elbow right above the valve (the first link to taunusrainer's post).
The system I described ends up with the injectors about 5 inches above the valves. I don't think that would make a huge difference but without a prototype system to test it's hard to tell. The synchronizing can be done with a Weber carb air flow meter.
Anyway, it looks like a really good project to get into. I would have done it but I'm not an FI guy and it would have been a steep learning curve to get myself to a point where I felt competenent. I just wanted to get my bike on the road.

Re: Intake Manifold
I don't have the icing problem either.
But then I have the waterjacket model, plus I removed that baffle from between the radiator and the carb/manifold.

Re: Intake Manifold
I have not had problems with icing up either.
But, I have had problems with full throttle operation, it just does not have the get up and go that it used to.
I don't think it is all the Pic-30 carberator, JD's manifold has a 1 inch pipe going from the flange that the carb bolts to down to the cross pipe. The cross pipe is 1.5 inches or so. I think that 1 inch pipe chokes the motor more than anything.
I am modifying that manifold for my EFI project, I am going to rip out the 1 inch pipe and put a 1.5 inch pipe up to my new flange for my Throttle Body. So I should flow a lot better air and my injectors (4) will supply plenty of Go Juice.
I have everything purchased but the Microsquirt computer and got my O2 sensor bung welded up yesterday so I am about to get to mounting and testing everything very soon. I will buy the computer very soon as I need it to test sensors etc.
It should be an interesting journey.

Good luck! I'm following this and reading your posts every day. Your cell phone didn't like the noise this morning with the mufflers off! Really made a strange racket through your cell.
