Re: Dual Weber Conversion conversation
Earthquate, Tell me about the difference between Weber and Dellorto carbs. Do they use the same jets? My understanding is that the Dellorto carbs are copies of Webers. The reason I ask is that I have the carb conversion for the GL1000 except I have Dellorto carbs. I'm finishing up the bike with an electric fuel pump. Bike is touchy to get started but once running idles well. Backfires while cold but once warm the motor revs nicely. I suspect that I need to do a little rejetting but have not gotten that far yet. Looking for some advice on how to tune these carbs.
Advice much appreciated.

I have never had a set long enough to get them on to a motor, I've allways sold them.
The jets are not interchangable, Weber's have been around longer then dellorto's but they are not copys, some say that dellorto's are easier to tune then Weber's but I dont know. I think CB performance has a book that shows how to tune them [Dellorto's], here a link to there web sight for parts, I think they are one of the last place to get parts as they are no longer imported.

Hope this helps.

Re: Dual Weber Conversion conversation
I'm down to 5 pairs of intakes left from the 3rd production run.
It's now looking doubtful that I will make any more. The fab shop that I've been using to make these was recently sold and the new owners are running off "small" nuisance customers like me citing lack of profitability on my jobs.
I'm working on alternate sourcing, but it's a complex (and expensive) manufacturing problem that is hard to justify on small production runs.

Re: Dual Weber Conversion conversation
The economy (econ-enemy?) is biting every one it seems.
Has any one tried to adapt the intakes for the dual port 1600 VW to a wing in order to be able to mount the dual carbs?

Type 1 [bug] VW manifolds wont work because the intake ports are only about 1 1/2" apart, now type 2-4 [bus-411/412 cars] manifolds might have a chance. I will measure some up and get back to you.

Re: Dual Weber Conversion conversation
Well I measured up some type 2/4 manifolds, looks like a no-go. While some thing could be cobbled up with them it would look like you gift wrapped a elephant. Let me look in to it , I run the water jet machine where I work its not like I cant cut out the flanges cheap. How about a set that have two foot runners for that rat bike look, you could adjust the carbs while you ride it.

While that would look cool, coming up with throttle control linkage might be a source of considerable hair pulling on some of our parts (not mine, ain't got none!)

Looks like I found another supplier. I should have details soon that will allow me to keep these in my catalog.randakk wrote:I'm down to 5 pairs of intakes left from the 3rd production run.

Re: Dual Weber Conversion conversation
Will these manifolds fit 1200 engines? I was toying with the idea of putting one in an 1100 frame with the setup I got from sunnbobb. I know the distance from head to head is longer and I would have to modify linkage, but what about port to port on a head? Also I am in need of Randakk's linkage directions if someone has some.

My intakes will "fit" onto the GL1200 heads, but the ID of the manifold bores don't match up. They are too large for the GL1200. That could be overcome with some heroic porting, but it has not been tried to my knowledge.
Sorry, linkage directions are copyrighted material provided only to customers...part of the "value-add" for that product. You probably won't get much "assistance" on that question from any of my customers. They know that I might call in the "hammer" from legal.

But, if you bought a set of these manifolds "indirectly" from one of my customers, they should have passed along the 50+ pages of instructions with your purchase.

You're gonna get to know those carbs. All motors are different so my jetting is different than Randall's was and yours will likely be a little different also.
People are gonna stare.
You're gonna grin.
I suggest Randall's electric fuel pump because it doesn't pulse like the mechanical pump.
