SDS-EM4 stand alone EFI on Goldwing?

#1

Post by earthquake »

Has any body ever tried to use a automotive based stand alone EFI on a Goldwing, I have a complete system I bought for my old Datsun 510 but never got around to using it.

I don't think it would be to hard to make work, the system is very tunable and with the right injectors and throttle body it should make some good power.

Mmmm, Datsun 510. I had two of them, a '71 2 door and a '70 four door I drove the pants off, sweet cars!

Sorry can't answer your question, just waxing nostalgia. ;)

I had it the other way around, 71 4 door and a 70 2 door. The 4 door had full coil-overs and camber plates and a healthy L16 that would turn 8000 rpm, I miss them, now I'm into air cooled VWs and Goldwings

Not familiar with that system but as long as you can program the fuel and spark tables, all you have to do is get the right sensors and flow rate on the injectors.

The "lean/rich" knob kills me... might as well hook it up to the accelerator.

Mounting a crank trigger will be a pain, if your SDS needs it.
There's basically no room at the front (unless its a 1200).
The rear has more room, but have to pull the swing arm to get to it.
Going to be mounting a 36-1 wheel at the rear of mine, after riding season is over.

If I were going to take the time to FI a wing I'd look to mega-squirt. SDS equipment is has more pieces, is a little older equipment and doesn't have near the support as mega-squirt. Of course you already have the SDS so it makes it a tough decision.
