I'm 61 years old and have NEVER owned, ridden or sat on a motorcycle. I now spend 4 months each year in AZ and have friends who ride everyday. I will be taking a tech course next week and we will be trained on small 250 cc bikes. I'm considering buying a Honda Goldwing after I obtain my permit....any advise...

If I may ask , Are you a tall man ? if so the GL would be no problem as the seat height is 31 " and they are a heavy bike . The age is nothing iether , I went to one bike run the the prise went to the oldest Gent rider who was 82 and the oldest lady rider was 69 . But the ride training course is a great idea also . You treat these bikes right and they almost last forever , so there I feel you made the right choice . I am 54 and I oun a 82 GL 1100 std . and that bike will I think out last me , LOL as its still going very strong . But here at the NGW site I am more of a cosmetics side of customizing our GLs where there as some Gents here that I would look up to for the more tachnical part of the internal workings of these GLs . So when they see this I'm sure they will jump in also with their tips also . But stick with us Chum there is lost here and don't be shy to give us a tip or two . Later and Welcome to our site bill .

hey Bill,.....age be damned!...i would recomend that you get some street riding time on a smaller bike before you take on a wing, full dressed or naked. a wing is a lot of bike.but with riding time under your belt, a wing is the way to fly. plan ahead, get what YOU want and join the group.
RIDE ON BRO! ...............T.
p.s...........check out my beast in the wingmans lounge. ........Big T. :-D tumb2 ngw

Ditto : I was just going to say the same thing.
Starting off on a Huge Bike is like russian roulette with Hitler. Start on a smaller cruiser then graduate after awhile. Get the feel of the road and learn some evasive manouvirs on the small ride. Goldwings are BIG and your life will be longer with the experience from the small bike.

Hello and welcome aboard bill, as I can see you have got some
good advice here. thup

Go for a Wing, they are heavy but quite easy to ride IMO.
