I don't think that doing that is uncommon; I remember doing it but not on which bike..I think the 73 Daytona 500 because I owned that bike the longest...anyway, lot's have been there but not admitted it.....cheers BC

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
It's time to service this bike again. I've jacked it up and am pulling down the front end for seals and neck bearings. Then I think with an oil change it will run another summer.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
After work and a couple St. Pattie's days brews the front wheel, fork legs, and triple tree were removed. I had time to knock the bearing races out of the neck with the same hammer and punch, about as hard as a car wheel bearing. There is a bearing adjuster spanner in the stock tool kit by the way.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
Good work. I now cut the bottom race out with a small cutoff wheel on the dremel. Makes it real easy.
I found the end of the internet

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
By out do you mean the one on the triple tree? We just hauled in a load of compost and after relaxing a bit I'm going out to take the race off the triple tree. I figure if I can't just pry it up I'd cut it with my Dremel.
This is addicting all right. This yellow one is currently my favorite bike for any distance over a few miles. I'm going though withdrawal having it out of service.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
Now this went well, cut off the corner with a Dremel and removed the old bearing.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
Paint and then find out that the neck bearings are different sizes and I've put the small one on the bottom.

Tomorrow, removing a bearing without hurting it I hope.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
I had it all greased too. I guess we should do a bit more of a how to on this.
Spenser and I are going to go to the pub and have pizza while my wife goes to the gym, I'm sure this will help me recover. Actually I kind of expect something to go wrong the first time I do something and so far this isn't bad. The worst is maybe having to buy another bearing and seal.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
i usually cut out the bottom race inside the triple tree. The one you can't get a straight shot at to knock out. I make two slices and then it prys out. I also cut the same one you did, it goes quick.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
you "should" be able to get that back out. might try the old throw-the-whole-thing-in-the-freezer-overnight trick, then apply some heat to the triple. should be fairly easy to coax out from there.

Re: So this guy walks into a chat room
I've got my fingers crossed, if I have to source a new bearing and seal it will slow the project way down. This is not the first time I've done something stupid like this.
I looked at the boxes not the bearing for a number and when I saw no number I assumed they were the same bearing. We all know what assume does.
