Ric's Retro Resto: BOTM June 2010
I'm going to start my rebuild photos here. There was nothing left of the seat and the panels (black w/ blue & gold stripes) were so checked they looked like road maps. She's a '76 with 23k miles and was a daily driver right up until the clutch cable broke (3 or 4 years ago). Since spent all it's time outside. Little did I know the brake lever would take twice as long to remove.
New belts (thanks NGW always good advise), seals, O-rings,etc. Hi-heat silver W/ clear coat. I glass beaded Honda logo to give a medallion like look. Sooo here is where I'm at today. The gas tank and brakes were awful. Old Dot whatever and rust make for a strange science experiment. On this bike I'm influenced a little by late '50's early '60's machines. Starting to work on pipes today. We'll see were it goes.[/img]- Attachments

I like the frame color. Would look great with a hunter green tank and side panels. Got me thinking. First I have to make sure mine is mechanically sound.

That frame color isn't far off from the secondary color I'm using on my two tone paint scheme for my wing.
I like it, I like it alot.

Is that frame painted or powder coated ?? (real sharp) & what handlebars did you put on it (my 76 has stock tall bars like your first pic) can`t wait to see the body color you pic for it.

Thanks Guys most appreciative. Good idea sunnbobb. Keep 'em coming I'm taking notes. The frame and swing arm are powder coat, small parts are base/clear Sierra Ivory. The bars are Euro sports I picked up local (I think JC Whitnik has them too) you have to cut your own pass thru.
Funny you say side car Deek, I saw an old R65 Bimmer with a side car when I was a kid, that must have stuck in there (my brain) somewhere.

Frame color
Must say"I Like It" too! Just lately I was thinking of doing something like that on my next project. Frame color other than black. Speaking of BMW, I seem to remember seeing something very similar to your color on some old Beemers from back in the 50's or early 60's. Made for a classy looking machine then. I expect yours will be a class act, also. Nice job.
The difficult can be done in a day. The impossible takes a little longer, if you don't know it can't be done.

Thanks Missourimike, I'll be looking for that next project. Hang it out there. I seem to remember that B-ski being light gray, frame, tank and sidecar. Well the pressure is on. Appreciate the encouragement. I'll be painting panels soon. Working on exhaust now. I have a photo of a black Norton Commando as a guide line I like that upswept look. Wired up elex. and headlight passed couple of days. BEFORE Notice the soon to be homeless mud wasp nest (upper left) AFTER bead blasted 'breadbox'(sorry guys my name for it) and painted with semi-gloss black same as glass tank. Cleaned and re-wrapped harness. T-sig flasher gotta go. I used Bronze wool to remove rust on chrome. EZ on chrome no scratches at all. You can rub hard with no hazing. Headlight mount took longer than I thought it would (some will say I hung it upside down) they're probably right. LOL
