Coolant drip from weep vent in gl1000
Hope the group can help. I changed the water pump on my GL1000 and I'm getting a few drips of coolant out of the engine vent hole. I have it still on the hoist not ridden and started it up a few times to check things out before doing the carbs. This is my first gl100 rebuild and was wondering if this is normal or what. Not sure if I should take it down again to see if I missed an o-ring or what. BTW what is that vent there fore anyway. Thanks guys,,, Terry (Ottawa, Canada)

It Is Normal For The New Waterpump Seals To Leak For A Bit After Installed, The Rubber Seals Need To Expand Into The Fittings And Make The Seal. Ride The Bike And The Leak Will Go Away, Some Bikes After 100 Miles And One I Did Took 800 Miles To Quit... Just Ready To Tear It Apart Again When It Stoped. The Weep Hole Is There So You Can See When Your Waterpump Has Bit The Dust...

mine did the same thing
I've just gotten a 76 goldwing on the road, (until it got cold here in Maine), that had sat for 20 years. it weeped a little bit of coolant out of the hole after a hot shutdown, maybe a couple teaspoons of liquid. after using the bike for a few tanks of gas, it has stopped.

You really shouldn't get any drips if the pump is OK and the O rings are doing their job. As previously mentioned drips out of the weep hole indicate problems.
Did you clean out the water pump housing really well before you installed
the water pump?
