Just started my '78 Wing after sitting a few weeks. Started right-up but have a high pitch screech around the starter clutch. Read in manual this might be due to (3) worn starter clutch rollers. Higher the revs, faster and higher pitch. Is this a correct assumption? How hard is it to fix myself? Would a dealer be a better place to get it repaired? If so, do I need a bank loan? Any other suggestions or comments?

screech
that what it sounds like. how wrenchy are you? on a 1 to 10(most difficult) the project is about a 6.the tricky part is holding the rollers, springs, and chain at the same time upon reassembly. consult the manual way before you begin. if anyone wants to add anything, nows the time.........Big T.

it sounds like you are talking about the three bearings for the starter clutch???? I have not heard of them screeeching. What I might try first would be to change out your oil with a lighter oil and a quart of marvel mystery oil to see if this lubricates up into places that can gunk up. I have heard people recomend runing a quart of MMO in the oil mix for a ouple of hundred miles and it really can clean up an engine...
just a thought, but if this works it is a heck of a lot easier than pulling and engine... and if you pay mother honda (IF, BIG IF, your dealer is even willing to work on olde wings) you might as well buy a new bike for what they will charge
