Rear Master Cylindar reservoir Cup

#1

Post by phaserburn »

Hi all,

I have a 1979 GL1000 and need a new rear master cyclindar reservoir cup. I can only find kits for the 1975-78 models... will these fit on mine? I cannot find any info on the cross over parts site.

Let me know!

I know the 79 front was unique. What I would do is go to Service Honda or one of the sites that has a parts breakdown and compare the part numbers between the 78 and the 79.

Im not worried about the front... already purchased an new one ;) .

Its the rear Im concerned about... I cant find replacements. I know the part numbers are different, just not sure if I can make the readily available 75-78 reservoir kits fit on my 79 rear master.

I don't think the '75 will work/fit nor do replacements for these exist. I talked this out with Susan/Frenchy a while back.

I did find a good used one and I'm thinking that's about our only option. '78 & '79 are all I own.

but if you find something that works/fits let us know.

my original '79 bought in '91 - replacing engine (eventually, maybe someday)
added an '05 1800 to the stable, all the rest gotta go

So a 78' cup will work? The kits on ebay cover the years 75-78' . I really dont care about keeping it original... I just need to know what year / diameter model will fit on my rear master....

The master rebuild kits are all the same though, so they changed only the cup in 79'?

Let me know... wanting to put back together asap.

All the kits I see on eBay are for the front, 75-78, in 79 they went to the rectangular reservoir on the front. From my parts list the rear cup is the same, 43511-371-003, for 75 to 79. I didn't see any rear cups on eBay, only the entire master cylinder with the cup attached, and from what I can tell it is NLA from mother Honda. Any used one 75-79 should fit and work.

It is because I am a computer nerd that I find these things out. Somebody asks an I have to know so I do a search. Since I am rebuilding my 75 I figure that anything I learn will be a help and I won't freak out when I am almost done. Since I am waiting for parts, I have time to do research.

starket, I hope you're right, however, mrcycle.com uses the same fiche that is on the dealer sites (from powersportsnetwork.com.) If you peruse the fiche, EVERYTHING is still available, frames, side covers, grab rails, wheels, carbs, exhaust, etc.... We all know that ain't so. The oil cup is not listed on cmsnl.com and is "ghosted out" on bikebandit.com. This leads me to believe its availability is suspect.

phaserburn, keep us posted on your results.

heh heh, I get a little OCD in my research, too.

I just want to know how EVERY-thing is put together... and why.
