so I'm going on a road trip...

it seems I'll be going to Albuquerque in the next couple of weeks. it'll be a strictly Monday through Friday trip, so says the wife.

my tentative plan is to go South to Portland, OR from North of Seattle, WA, across to Boise, ID, down/across to Salt Lake City, UT & on down through part of Colorado and into New Mexico to I-40 and East.

the return will be a bit different; West over to Kingman, AZ, across the Hoover Dam and up to Vegas, then on up to Reno, NV, through Susanville, CA, by Mount Shasta and up the I-5 corridor.

anybody want to get together while I'm out & about? I'll know more about specific dates in the next few days, but I'd really like to meet some members along the way.

seriously, I'm not looking to mooch a place to sleep or anything, just meet some fellow NGW members & put a face to some names maybe.

1990 1500 Aspencade - It's ALIVE! but very, very naked. not in a good way.
1978 for $100 - project in worx
1978 from a previous member here - taking up space
my original '79 bought in '91 - replacing engine (eventually, maybe someday)
added an '05 1800 to the stable, all the rest gotta go

Is this within the next few weeks, or next few months? My scooter is all torn up but I'd love to ride west to run a little ways with ya, weather, etc., permitting. I know a guy in Reno that will feed ya and put ya up for overnight.

I don't think I'd want to be doing that outbound route in mid winter.

I'd stay on I-5 south as far as Bakersfield then head east on 58 to 15 (past vegas) and then the Kingman/Hoover thing and I-40 east to Alb.

Or even go further south and pick up I-10 and go east to Las Cruces and I-25 N to Alb.

Both of these routes are longer... but I've done this route in March and April and it's still cold!

cold I'm not worried about. it's that danged falling frozen precipitation. I'll do some crazy A** stuff, but ice/snow skidding on a sidecar rig is not my idea of fun, lemme tell ya.

I'm avoiding the pass outside Seattle just for good measure and I'll be checking the NOAA and TWC sites just before I leave for a lot of my points between, just to see where I'm at. (ya know they say that 'meteorologist' is Latin for LIAR)

yes, worst case is I trundle down I-5 a buncha miles and cut over to either hiway 395 in NV & CA then down to I-40. OR yes, at Bakersfield but I was trying to avoid going through Kramer Junction. while a nice 'Astro Burger', grease bomb is nice on occasion, I won't be near a loo while on the road. anybody know if the 'AB' is even still there?

I hadn't even considered the Cont. Divide... hmm. but I shouldn't cross that 'till I'm way down on I-40... 'long about Gallup isn't it? somebody nudge me if my compass is off.

we'll all know more as the time gets closer. for now, departure is 2am Monday, February 11, 2008.

that is all,

If you want to make a short diversion to the SF San Mateo area off route five you could come over and warm up in front of the fire.
We may have a spare cat for you but they tend to be afraid of strangers.
Travelers are always offered liquid refreshment to relieve the stress of the journey.
We do have a back room recently vacated by traveling Kiwis, so you might rest until you recovered your insanity to continue freezing to death and getting soaked.
I think mad quests by fruit loops should be encouraged at all costs since otherwise humanity would be boring.

This is a motto around which you could build a society.
If I were even remotely near the planned route I'd offer a similar harbor.

okay, all I need to know is, "what's traffic gonna be like in your neighborhood on a late afternoon/Monday evening?" I Mapquested directions to San Mateo in general. wow, that's some freeway system. but I'm comfortable in L.A., San Diego, Houston and D/FW, so...

sorry, but I gotta leave the nose and rainbow wig here at home.
