Sorry for the teaser post! My Internet connection is acting weird...

Layla is a 1981 GL1100 standard with dealer installed fairing and Hondaline side cases. I'm the third owner, as of today! She has just over 40,000 well maintained miles on the clock, and until last year was ridden regularly, if not extensively. The po had knee surgery and just didn't feel confident maneuvering it around any more. He did keep it fresh by starting and running it up to temperature every couple of months, which is good. He did not keep the tank full of fuel, however, or drain the carbs, so I've got leaky carbs and a powdery-rust coated fuel tank to deal with.
Other issues include a very weather-checked front tire, leaking fork seals, and fork oil-contaminated brake pads.
I may do some small stuff with her yet this fall, but will probably put her in storage for the winter, then go hot and heavy in the spring.
She got her name this morning... As I was pulling into the po's driveway to pick her up, Eric Clapton's 'Leyla' was blasting on my radio!

Thanks! After a little closer look into the tank, I'm encouraged! It doesn't look bad at all. I'll pop the seat off tomorrow and take a real gander through the sender opening. Next I swapped out the almost dead battery for one a little less dead and fired her up. Started and ran, idled right down after about 30 seconds of half choke. Charging at 12.5v at idle, 13.8v at 3000 RPM. Stator connector is original; it did get a bit warm while running. I'm not sure what I'll do with that yet. Fan cycled on and off as it should. The exhaust looks great, and is very solid. It doesn't even have the typical battery acid scar!
Cosmetically, the paint is great, with little or no fading, and a couple of minor chips here and there. It was put down once, leaving a bit of road rash on the right side crash bar, the lock for the rear bag, and the very tip of the exhaust. Both side bags have a small crack on the top near the handle. Must be a stress point.
