far better it be stuck on, then not turn on. However, I sure don't like the current draw

That's part of the reason I convert mine to front mounted modern fans. Better air flow, and lower current draw

Got the Beck/Arnley, Part# 2011614 switch. Look around on ebay for a good price with free shipping. Got the connector here: http://www.cycleterminal.com/mt-series-090.html. The connector works great. I ordered 2 of them to get past the $5 minimum. Shipping was cheap. Got 2 connectors, shipped for under $10. Connector is completely sealed and latches onto the sender. There's a left and right hand version based on where the locating thingy is on the switch. I ordered MT090-R and I don't know why this would change for the 2011614 but as my wallet is getting down to the proverbial 'stems and seeds', I ordered the switch first and compared before ordering the connector. I've seen the connector on Amazon for a $12 or so apiece. So if you're flush.......
Here's a pic of the switch installed with the connector on it. I also drew up a schematic for wiring in a Bosch/Tyco relay. You NEED the relay. In the wiring diagram, black lines denote existing wires and orange lines are new wires you'll add. Dots are splices. The black wire between the fan and switch must be cut as shown. I've noted the wire gauges I'm using. The wires to the fan should be at least 18 gauge. The wires to the relay coil (85 & 86) can be 22 or larger.
Oh, one other thing I reckon you ought to do: lube the o-ring with something (I used Sil-Glide). When you tighten this puppy, the o-ring has to slide against something and it has the potential of getting a bit roughed up if not slippery.

Some added information on the Beck/Arnley switch. I tested it on the bench and it closed at 222 degF and reopened at 194 degF.

I replaced my factory switch with one similar but didn't wire in a relay..
When I attempted to test it by letting the bike idle the fan never came on..but the bike temp gauge never got anywhere close to running hot..
Should I add a relay do you think..just to be safe?

Depends on what the switch is rated for. Some are 5A and some are 30A (with everything in between). I don't know what the factory switch is rated at, but Honda apparently didn't think a relay was necessary. Just another potential component failure in the fan's path, I'd think.

Nobody seems to want to fork over power specs for this switch. I'm going by Roady's experience and the fact that the pins are pretty miniscule. A relay can't hurt and if the switch is rated at less than 4 amps it'll definitely help. Relays are incredibly reliable. My GL1500 has hundreds of them and nary a failure in 140,000 miles. The splices you make could be a weakness, so do them well. But I wouldn't sweat the relay.

roady did the research for this, i didnt see it here in this list so here is the link to his post. octane posted the interchange list and it will fit a bunch of gl's.

I found that if I entered any of the NAPA numbers given into the search at napacanada.com it could not find any of them except for TS6045 but something is incorrect because it says that the thread size is 16mm. If I enter the original Honda number 37760-MB9-000 it finds NAPA # UNI FS131 but it says the thread size is 16mm as well. Either they have the thread sizes wrong or these are not the correct parts.

Bobby - go up 7 or so posts. The switch I used works. I bench tested it and my findings are there. I also got a connector for it. Recommend a relay though.

My "new" engine didn't come with a fan switch. I didn't worry about that at the time because I "knew" I had a spare good used one around here somewhere. But I can't find it so I'm trying to decide whether to use the one that's in my current engine or get a new one for the new engine.

The cheapest Beck/Arnley I can find would cost me over $47 CAD including shipping & border fees. PLUS the bother of wiring up a relay.

If the NAPA FS131 actually has the correct thread it would be a direct replacement (no relay) and I can pick that up locally for under $25 (tax incl.)

I just tried searching for M18 fan switch on eBay and found this https://www.ebay.ca/itm/311895681617 The listing lists a lot of bike models that it fits. For only $10.06 CAD it might be worth getting one and wiring in a relay.... And a "parade" switch too (just in case)....

I also have one of the ones the CX500 guys epoxy to the rad when they convert to electric fans that I could use too. But if I used that I'd need to find something to block the hole in the thermostat cover so that's starting to sound even more like work.

So I walked out to the shop and looked where I thought the good used one should be again and there it was

But that really cheap one on eBay intrigued me so I made an offer, the seller counter offered, I applied my eBay points and paid $4.06 (shipping incl.). I'll post back about it when it arrives.

My eBay bargain Suzuki fan switch seems to work OK but it comes on early and usually stays on. I realized why when I looked at the listing again: It is an 85 degree switch and the original is a 95 degree. It doesn't seem to be doing any harm (the voltmeter reads 14.5 with the fan running) so I think I'll leave it in until I drain the coolant to change it.
