Torques Values

#1

Post by Whiskerfish »

northwood has been working on several different areas of his bike and got a bit frustrated looking all over the book for torques values so he built this spread sheet. This is straight from the Honda Shop manual.

For those that can not open an xls I also have it here in jpg format

Somehow missing from the official Honda manual is the LEFT Step mounting nut torque (also partly secures the removable section of the frame). Well, actually listed incorrectly as a 10mm in my manual, although it is in fact 12mm. I would suggest 40-45ftlbs for it.

<<< I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't resist >>>

There are lots of torque values that are important. Some are not. Common sense and torque appropriate for the hardware used usually works in many applications.

For non-critical fasteners - or those that are securing rather than providing compression loading or clamping force - I like to use the German method:

Gudanteit.

Torque settings for fasteners will be in a shop manual. You should have one for any bike you own that you want to work on. There are also "standard" torque settings for any size fastener. A pretty good guide that works most of the time.

all correct ... having it laid out on a quick reference sheet like this really just saves time.
