GREAT job Roady on this bit of instruction. I used it and it certainly made my rebuild experience a pleasant one. Quick question. Did you bench test the carbs to make sure the gas flowed properly through the intakes. I maybe having issues, maybe not. I am not sure what is really expected to happen. I can elaborate later but was just wondering if you had done it.

Yes I did bench test it. That's part of Howard's book.

Just filled the bowls and twisted the throttle while watching thru the intakes.

It's nice to hear that this helped you out.

Don't forget to flush the lines and pump before you hook them to the carbs.

I assume you got flow through all the intakes? Was it squirting or dribbling and did they all work right away? Or did it take a few pumps. Mine isn't doing that. Carbs 1 & 3 intakes are wet the other two aren't. Man I follwed directions to the letter to. Thanks for the help.

1&3 will fill first. Make sure that 2&4 are filling. It's been a while but I'm sure they all got wet before I installed them. Don't recall if they were squirting or not. I had to apply some pressure to the syringe to fill them.

The procedure for setting the Pilot Screws has been updated in the first post of this thread. It's near the end of the writeup.

Also added a tip for tightening the clamps on the rubber intake runners.

This has helped me tremendously when I rebuilt my carbs on the 81 1100. I would have been totally lost without this forum! :-D

Roady, you are practically my next door neighbor...I live in Effingham and am working near Patoka.

may i first say what a great write up!
I just had a quick guestion about the fuel tubes, im assuming the larger diameter ones are the supply and the smaller diam. ones are some sort of return? i recently had troubles with the large fuel tube leaking so i took it apart and replaces the o-rings on them but in the process my smaller fuel tube was damaged i was just wondering how tight of a seal those small ones must have as i dont 100% know there function. I looked into replacing it but my honda dealership told me they were discontinued so would it be an option as a last resort to braze the one side of the tube into the female port? just asking because if i cant find another tube i may be put between a rock and a had place. thanks for any input!

I do not know the specific purpose of each of the tubes.

You should post a thread in the Wanted forum, someone will have one for you.

Or, go ahead and post the same question you asked above in Tech Discussions. More folks browse that forum than any other.

Either way is okay, but you'll also need to include the year and model of your bike (it's a good idea to put that in your Signature).

Also, welcome to the forums. Get on over to the Introduce Yourself forum and give us a bio. You'll meet all the heavy hitters in there.

Hi,

I was just given an '83 GL1100 Aspencade, and was recommended by the previous owner to "check" #2 carb. I have been reading your thread and it is great. I have one very important question, are my '83 carbs the same as your '81? I want to make sure I do this right, and would hate to get into it, and find I screwed something because of a minor difference.

Thanks for your time,

Ian

All 1100 carbs are similar design.

Yours have the advantage of removable idle jets. 80-81 are non-removable. Your idle jets will be very easy to clean. I believe that is noted in the thread.

I personally feel that Randakk's kit with Howard's book are required for this procedure and would not even attempt it without them.

Then, take your time, be meticulous and you'll only need to do it once.

Great job on the Carburetor Overhaul!
I just rebuilt the carburetors on my 1983 GL1100. I reinstalled the carbs on the bike and started it up. I cannot get it to idle under 2000rpm. I turned the idle screw out as far as I can and I've tried adjusting the pilot screws starting a 1 1/4 turns out to 2 1/2 turns out. Should I try synchronizing the carbs at this point or is there something else I should do?

Thanks for your help.
