1978 GL1000 Parts
UPDATE: I gave the exhaust to someone. but I do still have the chrome heat shields that go on the mufflers. I sold the gauges. The side covers were sold, so there isn't much left.

I would be interested in the exhaust system. Do you have any pictures?

I got rid of the pipes. They were not too good.

Re: 1978 GL1000 Parts
The Good:
The complete left exhaust pipe from end to end is in nice shape. Both muffler shields, left and right sides) are in nice shape. Both of the black mounting brackets are in good shape. The clamps are in pretty good condition. Both manifold pipes looked good. See pictures below.
The bad:
The right side muffler went into the trash except for the muffler shield, clamps and black mounting bracket.
The ugly:
The other parts that were in bad shape are the chrome manifold shields so I didn't even clean them up. Did not take a picture of these after these were removed. You don't want them

Re: 1978 GL1000 Parts
The 78 headlight bucket will be black plastic. Not the nice Chrome shell of the earlier 1000s. I went the other way on mine. I liked the Chrome shell so much that I installed one of those instead of the black one after the Vetter shell came off.MikeNTexas wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 11:25 am I’m needing a headlight bucket for a 76 project I’m working on.

Do you happen to have the false tank panels still? specifically the little center piece at the seat and hinge?

I'd be very interested in the side covers if those are available. The ones on the body underneath the seat.

Re: 1978 GL1000 Parts
Yes, I have the covers and they are in pretty good shape. One of them had a crack but I fixed it using plast-aid and it doesn't look too bad. They are the original black color. One emblem pin is missing. One chrome lock bolt is missing.
These look better than most I see. Make me an offer. Send me a PM if you have questions. Cedric

Re: 1978 GL1000 Parts
The left ones are scarce (my thoughts that folks forget to tighten properly after a hurried jump-start). The hardware for the latch bolts are still available online, I think.

Re: 1978 GL1000 Parts
OK, I'm just re-learning all of this again. I don't think those will work for my '77. I forgot they changed them up for '78 & '79.
Sorry for that,
