I have recently bought 2 gl1000's for $550. 1 is a 1975 parts bike but almost complete just ne carbs and the other is a 76. I just built my first go at the single carb conversion. I am using 1 1/4 PVC, the stock pelum, cutting board, some gaskets from a roll I cut and a (edited rcmatt) ton of fake a gasket. I am using a 34 pict 3 type 1 carb a $70 find on ebay. When I got the bikes the 76 was having alot of issues and I am sure you can guess the issue. yep that's right the carbs.
So me and my neighbor set off on a mission to get it running little did we know what we were in for.
After alot of head scratching we got it going but not running well so after buying a rebuild kit from ebay (DONT DO IT!) Not a good kit it was not a randaks so when I put it back together it started leaking from every where it shouldn't. Lol. So my buddy and I set off to find the next best thing and then stumbled across alot of successful single conversions I decided to go for it. I used a few people's ideas.
And what I came up with has realy impressed me.
The performance was amazing compared to what it was before. It was like going from a 49cc to 999cc. . It has pretty much been bolt on and go I will still need to adjust the idle just a little and build a better throttle linkage. I am real happy with this set up it will still need some tinkering but all and all I am impressed.
This is my first GW but I am sold.
Any comments or questions please dont be shy. I am new to this never worked on a bike before so I am still new and a would love any advise or comments.

I have since cut the gaskets I cut they leak air bad. I went with the aerosol fake a gasket it's called the grey stuff. I cant get it to idle right yet but man its responsive and faster then 2 tweakers #### (Edited out language to fit guidelines) rcmatt

Did you change the jets in the carb? I have a pict 34-3 on my 79. My brother changed it over. It will only idle if the timing is very advanced.

I have gone to a metal manifold bought off Ebay from broilerboy. I love it and now I am getting a different carb not sure which one this is leaking and well I dont want to rebuild it I would rather buy a new one. The idle is better and with maintain a good idle but every once in awhile it will want to die. Cheap carb and one that's been through a lot with all I have done to it lol.
