Anyone know if C5 is able to provide the signal? Seems like more than 36 tooth wheel, but maybe with microsquirt still works.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Tach signal? Sure does. Whether it works with the microsquirt or not, :dunno:

This is my fifth season with my 75. Starts fine, runs fine. My carb were rebuilt by a Honda dealer in 1997-99 from what I can tell. So that's 16 years after carb rebuild. I keep waiting for
run ability problems, but knock on wood. I try to ride every week in summer and I've gone
as far as two months in winter without starting. On stablized, non ethanol fuel.
So don't be afraid of stock carbs, imho.

I believe with the c5 you would still get the signal off the coils

Yeah I'll probably go with a rebuild of the stockers for this year. But next year... I've got this lonely CT12 turbo sitting on the bench... And it's far too small for any of my cars, but would work perfectly on something 1000cc and fuel injected...

I think it helps to have an idea of how well the stock bike runs with stock carbs before converting to efi. I went through the process of rebuilding the carbs, which was no easy task for me at the time since I probably hadn't touched a carb in 10 years. The internal passages are very small compared to, say a Holly 4 barrel, and harder to get clean.
Roncar's diagram of the c5 (earlier in this thread) shows a tach signal output with 1 pulse per crank revolution. Microsquirt can use that kind of tach signal very well. My first microsquirt system used the same signal, although it came from a modified stock ignition.
Good luck with your project!

Also, don't be afraid of EFI.... mine is a simpler system, being TBI, but I went from nothing to a running with microsquirt in 2 weeks.

The stock carbs are great for performance, but the EFI conversion scratches the modification itch pretty nicely :)

Toehead, what'd you get the throttle body from/what is it built for? And you're running megasquirt? Didn't know MS would run a tbi setup, I've only read about them being used on 4 cyl TPI and ITB setups before now.

It's from a Geo metro. I'm using microsquirt to control it. The megasquirt is very adaptable.. It can run almost any configuration you can think of.

My build thread was posted a few days ago.

Oh I've owned and worked on a metro. That's probably why you're lacking a little performance compared to the stock carbs. The metro tb is tiny! I'd think you'd have better performance matching hp rather than displacement in this case. I mean the metro only makes like 53hp, vs the bikes 90? I'd think you'd be better served by swapping tb with some donor that makes closer to 90-100 hp, even if the displacement is different.

1976 GL1000 was factory rated at 82HP. And we all know the factories were a bit optimistic on HP numbers back in the day.
