May 22:nd
Spent the whole day on 101. Pretty soon after breakfast we entered oregon and It was a really nice ride! Green hills, the ocean, flowers thick vegetation and the occational sand dunes.
We had really strange chinese food for dinner. My shrimps came in no less than a liter of oil!
Then in the evening after a short bathroom break, the bike started to smokea lot out of the right pipe! Amanda said it smelled like chinese food!
It continued for some time while driving until it went away.... The bike runs fine and theres no lack of power. When we arrived to the hotel, after stopping outside reception, again a cloud of white smoke!

Re: All around the Pacific northwest!
Beautiful pics. Reminds me of the wonderful trips I've had to the west coast. WHITE SMOKE !! Does it smell like oil or anti freeze? Oil smoke would have a blue tint and a familiar smell, usually can be attributed to sitting on the kick stand. Is it smoking from the left side only? Anti freeze smells like, well anti-freeze and could be coming from either side. Watch your coolant level and engine temperature. Check your spark plugs for a green tint. Check engine oil for coolant, check coolant for engine oil. Good Luck !!

May 23:rd
Woke up and started to read about blown head gaskets... went out and checked some things on the bike.
Coolant is beyond low... didnt check for a long time so i dont know how fast it went down.
Started the bike shortly, nothing special, little usual side stand type of smoke from the left pipe.
Took out spark plugs. All quite dark, but number 3 (rear right) was a bit wet) maybe gas?
Swapped around the plugs and let the bike warm up. Started to smoke out of right pipe again. Idles fine though. I dont think it smells anything special. Just normal exhaust fumes.
Turned off at operation temp.Took out plugs, and they all look the same. Dark, but all dry.
I think the bike was spitting some liquid from the right pipe a bit. Couldnt smell if it was oil, gas or coolant..
What to do? Can we ride it if we keep an eye on the coolant? It runs fine. Could it be carb problem? The idle was little high yesterday come to think of it. Closer to 1300 than usual 1000 rpm when hot.
Book train tickets?

Re: All around the Pacific northwest!
Ride it and keep on eye on your fluid levels. Liquid from the tail pipe when its cold is likely just condensation. No plug looks steamed cleaned which is an obvious indicator of a blown head gasket. Its possible you have a carb float problem leading to a rich cylinder causing the smoke.
Buy some Seafoam cleaner at the next auto parts store you pass and add some to the gas tank. I will help clean the carbs while you ride and might just possibly fix the problem.

Re: All around the Pacific northwest!
Sounds like the same thing that happened to me near Medford. Checked fluid levels and didn't push the bike too hard. Problem went away on its own. Dave Morgan at psychocycle is located in Medford and knows slot about these machines. You are very near him

Re: All around the Pacific northwest!
So we filled up the tank and added seafoam. Now we have gone 100 miles, and whenever its running or we stop at a red light or something its totally clear and OK... its only when turning it back on it starts smoking.
Thanks for the tip Sunnbobb! We might just go there!
