Thread Subscriptions

This Morning Hotmail and Live Mail labeled us as Spammers again and locked us out. The last communication I had with them they responded with
Hotmail customers have reported emails from the IP as unwanted
Our server sends out close to 2,000 Emails a week and each one is something that a Member requested. Either a PM Notification or a Thread Subscription or a password reset.

Going through our system and trying to identify what may be keying the Hotmail/live Email problem we found out that our "Thread Subscription" count was very high. This table had not been purged in several years and had over 12,000 threads being tracked. My thinking is members that are no longer active have subscribed to threads and not being interested in them any longer are marking them as Spam when they receive the notification. I believe this to be a part of our current issue.

The only way to resolve this was to purge the table that tracks the Subscriptions. That was done.

So if you have any threads you were tracking you need to Subscribe to them again as all previous Subscriptions are gone.

Would this affect subscribed forums?

I ask because the forums I subscribe to still say "unsubscribe"
Should I unsubscribe then subscribe again to reset it?

I just looked in my ucp and see the watched forums are still there and now this topic is also in the watched topics, the only one so it seems subscribed forums are unaffected.

And, might I suggest ...

If you typically do not want to receive email notifications when comments are made in a thread, you should turn off that option in your settings. Here's how to do it.

Image
  1. Click to bring up your User Control Panel.
  2. Select Edit posting defaults.
  3. Change your Notify Default to No.
