Bag Lanyards are important. I have witnessed them flying. Way better with Lanyards. Keep up the great progress.

After checking a couple of things I bolted the seat down and added a couple of mismatched mirrors and went for a short ride. All in all it went pretty good. Brakes are a little spongy but I have not done anything to them yet. All the gears and clutch seem to be ok. Suspension and steering feel tight. Acceleration felt good but didn't get up past 30 - 35. Engine did have some rattle that may need some attention down the road. It was nice to actually take it for a spin. Also put some new grommets in to securely hold the side covers. Come on warmer (painting) weather.

Confidence building ride for sure. Hope the rear shocks worked good.

Good point. I forgot about the shocks but the good news is there didn't seem to be any issues in that area today. If I remember correctly those shocks were on my previous 1200 while the air shocks were being rebuilt. The only thing bad was riding 2 up it would allow the rear tire to rub on a good bump. I'll have to check the clearance the next time I take it off the center stand.

Not sure if it's been brought up, but speaking of brakes, the 1200s are linked. The front brake handle runs one of the discs up front (forget which side), the rear pedal runs the rear brake and the other side of the front.

Just an FYI if you decide to really dive in.
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

Thanks for the reminder. I've dealt with linked brakes a few times and it's not bad long as you follow procedures.

Two more small improvements today. Found a pair of nos mirrors for a whopping $15 today. It was a cool mid 40's ride to pick them up. I might look into ways to shorten the stems as they seem a little tall for my liking. Then I pulled a windscreen out of my stash and it looks like a good fit. Still need to make a couple of brackets when I locate some suitable stock. Thinking I may apply some dark tint to the lower portion to hide the large cluster. This is turning out to be a big mix match of parts.

Those mirrors make a bit more sense with the stock handlebars- the 1200s ran a shockingly large set of almost mini-ape hangers. They were comfortable, but far and away my most disliked part of my Standard.

I actually quite like the bars you have on yours. I didn't dig through the thread to see if you mentioned it, but any idea where those came from?

Looks good just the way you have it. Need 1000 miles before further tint or updates. I like it.

No idea, the bars were on there when I brought it home. Hadn't paid much attention to their shape and height.

They do look like a low rise Superbike bar. Similar to those in my bike.

Doesn’t look like the mirrors show behind your shoulders. Not sure how much they can be bent. I think I went with a set of extenders, or offsets to get them out wider. Pretty sure the stock setup was with the reservoirs sloping downward thus extending and lowering the mirrors.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

I just wasn't happy with the mirrors up that high. I did bend the stems close to 90 degrees and it helped a little. Forgot to get a new picture before it got dark. Was busy bleeding the brakes and greasing the front axle. Wanted to get another test ride but that didn't happen either. I may need to replace the front wheel bearings as I notices a very slight side to side movement. I checked a couple of other wheels I have and they all have the same movement. I also did a small paint test while I had the left bag off. Color looks really good.

Glad the Colors match. Loos like new wheel bearing may be in your future.

Finished putting the front wheel and brakes back on. Decided to lower the mirrors a tad more and took the bend to a full 90 degrees. It looks better to me and I still can see whats going on behind me. Got in a short ride to check things and it seems fine. This one is a lot less intimidating than riding the 1800. Also set up a screened canopy as a paint booth and sprayed the shelter halves. Cool weather didn't seem to hurt and I laid on several coats. Some cure time is needed before I wet sand and clear coat. Color looks a bit darker than my test spray. Starting to run out of things to do before it is ready to get safety inspected. I do still need a front tire and front turn signals but not much else.
