Nice to have you back into a supervisory role again. This way you can spend more time on design issues. Nice progress for sure and getting good carbs back on is terrific progress.

Needs some love is an understatement. But the motors free and fires, and has a good title, so above average for most of my projects. Lol
It will be a good bike to learn the value if reclaiming on. Not real valuable so no worrys on making "mistakes"

From what I gathered about putting my 305 Dream together?

Expensive as all get out if you want it period correct (although the Benly is a bit better for this).

Absolutely bulletproof if you're just looking to run it.

Great project for the young fellow to learn a lot of tips and tricks to restore parts/pieces such a water and aluminum foil to clean up the chrome. If he starts now, with a young fellows attention span, should be ready for the road when he is.

Exhaust day today!

Original exhaust was toast but I had good manifolds.
Found a pair of HD Fat Boy take offs that where 1 3/4.
I used 6" of 1 3/4 pipe, but did need to have the manifold side of the pipe bumped slightly.
Tacked in place, then removed and completed welding.
I painted the pipes with header paint.
I do still need to make brackets to the rear support, but I'm pleased with the look.
No idea how it will sound, but hoping not very loud as they are OE mufflers.

Harley OEM mufflers are generally quiet

They definitely have a bit more rasp than stock mufflers. Maybe a touch louder, but that's less about how loud the Harley mufflers are and how incredibly quiet the stock ('75-'77) horseshoe is.

My very first 1000 had them. They actually sound quite nice, in my opinion.

They made the 78s louder because people complained about the quiet

Had them on my 78 for a while. Swiched them out for a set off a Ducati. Still have the sportster ones on a shelf in the shop

Thanks. They are really pretty quiet. Does not sound like a Ducati at all. And I have the turn signals in the tips, which always turn a few heads. I have Harley pipes on my 1200, which are a bit louder.....but mellow.

Good looking exhaust set up Tory.

I hung a set of stock HD Dyna mufflers on my 79 using a length of exhaust pipe from AutoZone to make the Dyna mate up with the stock head pipes. The Dyna's have a mounting channel welded to them from the factory so lining them up with the hanger on the frame was a straight on proposition. Just had to make a small spacer to get them perfect.

The sound is really nice. A low growl, just right. I think you'll like it.

There's just something about using HD mufflers on a NGW that looks "right".
