I have them on my 78. Good in the wet. Fair mileage. I have used them half highway, and half twistee's. Will buy them again

I have used many shinkos on my bikes and my friend's bikes. Very good value. They are not the absolute best, but they are good and the are probably the best value.

I had a service shop for years and installed hundreds of them and never had an issue.

I would run shinkos again, but my favorites are the Michelin pilot series.

Thanks for the advice, will definitely be getting shinkos for my bike once I get to that point. I finally got around to fixing my ignition. Got good spark again but when I try to start it, it’s just shooting white smoke with an occasional pop. Sometimes the pop sounds like it came from the carbs somehow, other times it pops in the exhaust. Starting fluid did nothing. I’m taking the carbs to a shop to have them deal with it because I simply don’t want to deal with these carbs anymore

Just a question. Do you have points still? And if so did you happen to disassemble the mechanical advance?

Reason I ask is you said you fixed your ignition and it sounds like your timing might be off.

I’ve reassembled mechanical advances before a once I put it back together 180 degrees out and it did what you are describing.

I recommend checking your timing before you pull the carbs. Sounds more like a timing issue than a carb issue from your last post.

Actually now that I think about it, the dyna s system still uses the mechanical advance

I have the full Dyna S system installed and I got the bike to run pretty well with that system and did not mess with my timing at all. It is set for the earliest possible spark so I might set it out a wee bit, but it ran how it’s set right now. I only opened the points cover to see if the weights were still moving.

Okay. TY

It’s just that what you describe sounds like timing not carburetors.

Wires wouldn’t have gotten crossed?

Good luck 👍

Thanks for the suggestion. Been a very long day and in the mess of all that I guess my stupid self mixed up the wires and plugs for 2/4. Carbs are still off though as there are still mix matched jets

I’ve got a question about the clutch. When I rebuilt it, the final disc was pretty stubborn in fitting but it got in. With my cable adjusted as far as it can go before it disables the starter, my rear wheel does not spin freely with the handle pulled. In gear with the handle pulled the wheel will move a few inches freely, then I have to push it through with a good bit of force. This is with the wheel off the ground if that would have any effect on it. Does all this sound like the clutch is fine or that I need to rerebuild it?

The final disc was pretty stubborn in fitting?

The Clutch Release lever's, located under the rear cover, freeplay adjustment is correctly set?

The rear brake caliper is not releasing its rotor completely?

You will always be able to turn the wheel freely a litle as you take up the backlash in the drive train. It will then become harder as you are now adding the drag of the gearbox to the drag of the rest of the drive.

When the bike is shifted into neutral the wheel moves freely so it’s not the brakes. Every disc and plate went on fine except for the final disc. That one I had to tap with the end of a screwdriver to get the tangs to slide in. At first I figured I just needed to break it in but the more I think about it, the less I want to to that

Currently that is what’s happening when it’s in gear. With the lever pulled there’s less resistance but barely any difference. Btw all of these observations are with the bike on the center stand and rear wheel off the ground. Not actually rolling the bike
