I tried a 14mm bore front MC on my 78. Never did give a firm response and always felt squishy. I think the 14 mm MCs are designed for bikes with a single front caliper. Got a refund and ordered a MC (cheap Chinese Ebay) with a 16mm bore and it works very well. Just my humble opinion.

I'm inclined to agree with that. Gonna give the original mc another look to see if it will respond. I've got enough parts around here to give it a go.

Set up the return today and ordered a 16mm unit. Hope that takes care of the problem. The original mc has a messed up bore. The piston will not slide in and out with normal force. Rebuild kit costs more than the replacement and I won't have to mess with the questionable bore.

When you receive the Chinabay master, pull it apartm clean it very thoroughly, and reassemble properly with fresh brake fluid lubricating the piston, bores, and cups. It will need "primed" - once mounted, leave the outlet unattached and after filling the reservoir pump against thumb pressure until you get good flow. The attach the output banjo and bleed. You may be surprised at the stuff they leave inside them.

New mc arrived today (quick). It was very clean inside and once it was primed it responded very well. I now have brakes on the front and rear. Leaver is still a little spongy so I tied it to the grip for the night. Next couple of days are pretty busy but I will find time to check. Next up is a small gas leak from the #2 carb. Rack will have to come out....again.

Checked the lever this afternoon and it is rock solid. I can't pull it all the way back to the grip. Done with that part.

Weekend freed up some and I was able to pull the rack. Leak is coming from the tube that runs between the carbs on both sides. The o-rings were dried out and hard. The fun job of getting the carbs far enough apart to get the tubes out is done and they are going back together. Worst part so far is getting the sync screws back in place. Should be able to finish tomorrow and check for leaks before putting the rack back on the motor.

Got the sync screws back in place and double checked to be sure the jets were still clean. Got the rack back in and she fired up pretty easily with no leaks. Re-synced the carbs to smooth things out and all seems well. One step closer. Still needs a test ride.

Rough day at the office today. Pulled the rear wheel to service the brakes and grease the axle and splines. For some reason the tire will not slide out even when deflated. Cleaned the caliper and disk and started to reassemble. While pushing the tire back into place, the bike shifted/twisted and down she went om the left side and yes I had safety straps on the bike. Now the bike is off the jack and on its side with the rear wheel not mounted. No chance of picking the bike up without the wheel. Managed to get the wheel loosely mounted and got the bike upright again (phew). Then working with multiple jacks I was able to get the main jack underneath and the center stand in place. That was good enough for now. Tomorrow I will try to finish installing the wheel and brakes.

Got almost everything put back on the bike today. Seat bolts and a once over and I'll be ready for a test ride. If all goes well, a good cleaning and some 'for sale' pictures will be taken. Still kicking around what my asking price will be. Wandering what my next project is gonna be. Need to pull the carbs off my 75 for a good cleaning. Been sitting too long.

Another setback today. Was gearing up for a test ride and found out the clutch will not engage. I'm guessing the plates are stuck together. Tried revving it up in gear and pull the clutch leaver while tapping the rear brake. Figured that would have a good chance to break the plates free. No joy. Tried that several times and just gave up for the day. Guessing the clutch will have to come apart to free it up. It also started to overheat again while running today. Not happy about that either. I did manage to take some fresh pictures today. I'll load them up shortly.

I've got the clutch leaver tied to the grip and rocking the rear wheel every time I think about it. Hoping it will break free before I find time to pull the disks and clean them. Thought about rigging up something to put pressure on the wheel rotation. Nothing elaborate, jack, a rod or bar through a wheel slot and maybe a stand. Use the jack to apply pressure and walk away for a while. Might work. Too many irons in the fire and riding weather is great right now.
