Great looking colour and very nice restoration. If you choose to paint, a little pearl in the colour will really make it pop.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
More progress... Slowly taking shape. Cleaned the wheels up although I'll be repainting those... Charcoal grey I'm thinking at present, all disk rotors are off... Centres are going to be painted a 2k satin gold and cleared...
Fitted new steering head bearings and swingarm bearings... Finished rebuilding rear shocks, progressive springs. Looking to do same with forks but still look g for set of springs for them. When I strip them the forks will be satin black. While the com stars will be grey I'm thinking of black pinstripe round the edges of spokes and the rim black... However I may change my mind on that yet.
Thanks to all this covid rubbish I've been able to spend a bit of time and drink a few beers at same time. Spent last couple of days prepping all the parts for painting. Used an airbrush for all small stuff. Worked out well. Not the quickest but almost no overspray and very economical on the paint.
So I'm using all KBS coatings for frame work, engine, fairing mounts etc etc. When I get to panels etc I'll be using a nice candy red 2 pack. Lots of prepping before that tho.
Found a place online that does custom speedo's and tacho's so will investigate at a later date... https://www.speedhut.com/
I want to convert my speedo and tacho to electronic but keep the Honda face and casings.. Can be done I'm told...
Had all my barwork and top box rack chrome stripped. That will be done in satin black as well.
The engine will be painted in satin black (kbs) and cleared with kbs diamond clear.
Just ticking the boxes as I go. I met up with another wing owner today who has customed his wing so bought some parts off him. Rear guard/ tail light and indicator assembly, front fender.. Both for $70 and set of stainless silencers... For 150. Not my my style but at the price I figured why not... I'll post couple of pics of his wing as well here.. And the other blokes wing..

Thanks Rednax60, was considering that as well. Paint shop where I go, bloke builds custom bikes, last one being a CX500. Getting some ideas from him as well...Rednaxs60 wrote:Great looking colour and very nice restoration. If you choose to paint, a little pearl in the colour will really make it pop.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
Time for an update... Just about ready to throw the towel in... This frame is seriously annoying me... Now I find that the swingarm pivot point threads have been cross threaded. So means swing arm will be out and bike won't track correctly either.
I was considering packing it up and taking to the tip... Thanks to #pony Ruiz convincing me in few emails to keep plugging on.
Then I've put my 1st set of carbs (1&3) in my ultrasonic bath. I used a non corrosive degreaser in the water... Non corrosive my behind... Discoloured those carbs and now I'm worried that I've damaged the internals.. So on the hunt for carbs 1 & 3...I drained water for next side and just used simple green... Came out real nice. I've been unable to find any decent tutorial on what to use in the bath... So I experimented... And whatdya know.. Less is more. Now there is no carb kits avail either...but I really only need the bowl oring, air cut off diaphragm (not essential I know but it's what came with) accelerator pump diaphragm and inlet manifold Orings. Been reading up on fair bit of mike Nixon's stuff...
If anyone has some advice or experience on shipping a frame let me know please

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
So as if one resto project isn't enough... Pick up another one hopefully today... 75 K0. 42k on clock.. Been sitting for a bit... Still has original silencer so hopefully kms are not far off...
Don't really want to do much to this til I've got the 1100 off the bench... But I couldn't pass this up...
A spare engine, panniers and a few parts. Exciting times.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
Started work on the 1100 carbs today. Got a bit distracted tho with arrival of my 83 Aspencade...
I've got 3 carbs done now... 1 more to do. My good engine is probably going to go in the Aspencade when ready while I tick away at the other 1100 and 1000.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
So I've now had the heads from the Aspencade vapour blasted. Came up sweet...I'm now starting polish ports. Just taking off rough edges hopefully improve flows.
Carbs are almost complete... Look really good. All nice and clean... Reassembled... And will re-review my work done.
Now stripping forks to get rechromed...
Just gotta find someone nearby to sandblast my frame... I can do it myself.. But makes a mess so I'm thinking I'll pay a mob to do it.

And I've "polished" the ports as well... Just gave them a bit of a clean up. While they are off I may as well...

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
Nice job on the heads. Mine were done as well, checked with a straight edge and all is well. Think I'll do the same to the intake/exhaust ports and clean them up a bit. I went and protected the exterior finish using a CERAKOTE product MC-5100 specifically for aluminum. The prep for the application is to clean and degrease then wash with DAWN dish soap then apply. Puts a good protective coating on the part/piece. Did my engine cases, parts and pieces. Leaves a good finish. Highly recommended especially after you having the vapour blasting done.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
I was going to get cerakote... Agents are in Queensland. Was gonna cost me... $60 for 100mls....then coz it's flammable... Another $80 to ship... They need to be gold plated for that coin....Rednaxs60 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 10:35 am Nice job on the heads. Mine were done as well, checked with a straight edge and all is well. Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
Paid $160.00 CDN for a quart (smallest size available), shipping $22.00. Have to think of some small projects to use this product. Thinking it will be good for other applications besides aluminum.

Re: my 1100 rebuild/resto
Haven't got to them yet, on the list. Been prepping for painting, and doing a couple of test pieces to determine the way ahead: One colour is easy, two a bit more challenging then add pinstripe - good learning experience. Worked on the front rim yesterday and today - ready for CERAKOTE: Off for a weekend away with the Mrs, will be getting at the project next week. Want to get the painting done while the weather is still pretty good. Have the engine cases together: but won't button up until I finish painting and can lay out the parts/pieces and make sure that everything that should be inside the engine is. Readjusting the project as circumstances dictate.
Cheers
