Re: "Parts Bike" a '77 rebuild thread
here is everything i am replacing. this should get the motor running then i'll add dash lights and handlebar switches later. motogadget and wiring kit, start button, spark plugs, wires & coils, reg/rec, starter solenoid. hope the starter motor and stator on the bike are still good. dyna ignition was on the other bike. still need a battery. out with the old...

Re: "Parts Bike" a '77 rebuild thread
Check your solenoid. They dont last as well as other parts due to the current they carry (and location near the battery).

Starter solenoid. BTW, I went with electronic flasher solenoid on mine, so LED/incandescent mix doesn't effect it. Buy mine at NAPA.

Eliminating flasher relay. All lights will be LEDs. (Except headlight)
no gauges. GPS. relocating dash lights.

Okay, if the flasher is gone, is it just the blinker fluid that boils, and makes them flash on and off?

owner's manual is actually a pretty interesting read. an aftermarket unit from germany setting the standard as far as i know for what a "smart motorcycle" could potentially do. looking at new bikes now and have not seen anything like this.

Re: "Parts Bike" a '77 rebuild thread
That is a very interesting unit. It would be fantastic for faultfinding with an LED to show the status of each input and output.
The only thing I do not like about the unit are those darned spring clamp terminals. I hate them. They are used all the time
now in industrial connection systems, which tend to be in indoor controlled environments, or at least enclosed in some kind of box.
I have reservations about them being used on vehicles that would be exposed to dampness.
Just my opinion, i am an old fashioned electrical craftsman that grew up with screw connections.

Using ferrules and heat shrink.
my thinking on the dampness is that the new stuff is going in the same spot as the old so it should be okay.

Re: "Parts Bike" a '77 rebuild thread
this will be the new layout. only 2 components. Probably try and get the solenoid close to the starter to keep the wire run short. desk is junky i'll post a better pic later.
