I am going to rebuild the starter clutch; bump starting doesn't work for me :-D .

The neutral light glows, so I'll have a look at that too.

Donna's awake.
I rebuilt the starter clutch and installed a new starter motor. Hopefully I'll never have to push her again.
After clumsily fiddling with the prestolite ignition timing, I seem to have landed in the sweet spot and she cranks right up.

There is one odd thing, the signals will only flash when the engine is turning >2000 rpm. Gremlins?

Down to the short rows now; synchronize, tires, and (uggh) paint.

I've never painted before so any guidance is gratefully received. Like for instance, decal removal.

Thanks to all who share here.

"There is one odd thing, the signals will only flash when the engine is turning >2000 rpm. Gremlins?"

Pretty common on all bikes from this era. The charging system isn't making 12 volts at idle or much above idle. Your horn may not work very well or at all either at idle. That is why so many go with the mosfet voltage regulator. Much more consistent and better voltage at lower rpms.

I put a new set of Shinko 230's on and took her for a test run. After a minor clutch adjustment, she good.

I still need to synch the carbs. I don't have a tool yet, so I'm going to make a manometer; give that a try.

The temp gauge stopped working. Does this mean that my fan won't come on when needed?

I'm pretty sure #4 isn't firing; the exhaust header there doesn't get hot.

And last, but certainly least, horn broke :-D .

Temp gauge - check all connections (sorry, the one on the sensor is hidden under the carb rack) and the 7 volts. It is a very simple gauge, but of course on yours buried in the clock. As far as pint, why cover up the well-earned patina? Wet sand and clear coat (SprayMax Galmor Clear on Amazon ~$23 a can but worth it) and it will be shiny faded. Also avoids replacing decal$$$$.

Temp sensor and fan switch are two separate items so a non working temp gauge will have no effect on the fan operation.

And to think I almost mentioned "no leaks".

Turns out the 46 year old radiator hoses aren't as useful as I thought they would be. I ran to full temp yesterday (the gauge is working) and this morning I found a puddle of Donna's tears. I will install new hoses and clamps.

Coincidentally, the horn really is broke. lolol

The horn can be dismantled, cleaned (usually the contacts crud up) and restored. There is one Gates 21008 radiator hose that can be cut in half to replace both upper and lower hose. Use a silicone lube on the spigots to ease installation.

I recall pushing the horn button on one of my bikes to hear a "theap" (high pitched)
