There's a fellow over on the VMax forum who had a friend/mechanic work on his bike. They had it running without the air box and something happened, so the guy (mechanic!) grabs a pillow and shoves it over the carburetors. The motor sucked polymer material out of the pillow into every single cylinder. Melted and fused them solid somehow. The entire machine had to be torn down and overhauled.

Saddest story I ever heard.

Having heard Donna turn over and seen her dash light up, my confidence that she will return to the open road has risen by one bench top buffer.

Be sure to work outside when buffing. It slowly makes a heck of a mess.

And eye protection plus a mask over your mouth and nose to stop the now blackened bits of buffing wheel from clogging your air passages. Didn't do this on my first attempt and every time I blew my nose for the next two days got some black crap out. Now I do it outside with the required safety gear. Really enjoyed the shiny stuff after, very rewarding!

I found that on REALLY bad areas, a felt wheel got me near my goal faster, but they stink.

Completed my carb rebuild today and got them back on the bike.

I set the pilot screw out 1 3\8 turns but I remember reading here somewhere to just set them 3 turns out and "forget about it". What is the common practice?

Edit- I found the info I was looking for in Mike Nixon's corner-" In short, make GL1000s 3 turns,"

Anyways, getting eager to fire this thing up!
