I've seen so many starter problems that ended up actually being connection problems. I'd take a car jumper cabe set, connect - to battery and starter cas bolt, + to battery and touch the starter power feed bolt. That will let you know if it is starter or wiring/solenoid. As long as the battery is good, of course.

I did that the other day before tearing into it again. I've got a real heavy duty set of cables I made from a salvaged large scale computer system. These cables have never failed to start any vehicle. Made from stranded copper about as thick as my little finger. Still flexible enough to coil up for storage.

New starter is mounted, dowel pin is in place, timing is sitting at about 15 degrees. She starts much better and I can see the advance working with the timing light. Now all I have to do is put it all back together and do some real testing. Man I hope this does the trick. I had a potential buyer but haven't heard back from him in a while. Next.

Got her all back together today and even took a short cruise around the neighborhood. Everything seems to be working like it should. Had to shut the gas off and let the carbs run dry to test the starting. Happy to report no more dragging when trying to start. Overall, it starts almost immediately even on a cold start. Gonna check the carb sync and clean the fuel level sending unit and call it a wrap.

A final post for this saga. She went to her new home this afternoon for the full asking price. Young guy who reportedly already has two wings (both in need of work to get running and on the road). I made sure he is aware of our website.
