Great thread so far, thanks for sharing. Can I ask: what model seat did you choose? I love it.

I got model number F2119- but I had him make it in the dark brown with diamond stitching. He really does a great job of customization, and is pretty much willing to do any combination you can think of. I highly recommend his little business.

Oh my goodness, looks like you beat me to the punch with that exact vinyl wrap. Great choice! Did you use a blow dryer or heat gun? Might as well ask someone who’s done to their ‘Wing.Motogalandherpup wrote:In the meantime, I got started on some cosmetic upgrades, the first of which was to change the color. I have rattle canned a couple of other bikes, and just haven't been happy with the results, so I figured I would try a vinyl wrap. I found this beautiful white pearl with gold sparkle and began with a side pod. Man, the results are beautiful. I reused the old badges, and I'm pretty happy with the result.

I have the rear fender and tank remaining but have gotten the hang of it.
Next is reworking the headlight and taillight, I've ordered some over-the-top brass and chrome lights and blinkers, which I think is going to just make this bike look ridiculous. I'm pretty excited. I'll post photos as things arrive.
next is to complete the brakes, fork seals, and check the carbs and belts.
Not sure your game plan for the tank, but I was thinking of separating the two halves to make two simpler pieces to wrap. I haven’t done a wrap yet, but I watched a few YouTube videos of people struggle bussing with doing it in one go.
Keep us posted on how it turns out!

Thanks for the seat information. I'll be ordering for my NGW as well.

Quick crappy photo update! I got the new tires on, some Shinko white walls, and a mock up of the wrapped front fender. Tomorrow I’ll finish the brakes! Finally!
Next up is to finish the vinyl, fork seals, and lighting.

Wow! That fender must have been complicated to wrap. Looks great!

Re: 1983 goldwing project build.
I need some help!
I’ve set up the new linked front brakes, and I bled the system- and can’t seem to get any real pressure from the lever. The pistons are compressing, and do somewhat work, but it feel like there is either air in the system or I’ve done something terribly wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?
In much better news- I got the new headlight on. It’s ridiculous.

Re: 1983 goldwing project build.
Nice headlight! Where did you get it and what brand? If you would share that info would help me selecting the headlight to mount on my 78.
Also wondering if you are using an oem Master cylinder. Also you do realize that with linked front brakes that the pedal operates the rear and one front brake on an 83 while the lever operates the left front brake only. Unless by "new linked" you mean that you have converted things so that the lever is set-up to operate both front brakes now. I am wondering if you are using an oem front master cylinder or one of the cheap 14mm master cylinders on ebay if you now have insufficient volume to properly operate two calipers. I had the same problem trying to use a 14 mm master on my 78 (lever operates both front brakes) that problem went away when I switched to a 16 mm bore master cylinder. Just a thought.

Re: 1983 goldwing project build.
Good looking headlight setup!
I can't tell from the pics how you have the brake lines set up, but it's a common problem for air to get trapped in the lines if you use a 'splitter.' One solution is to turn the bars so that the master cylinder is at its highest point, then tie back the brake lever about half way and leave it over night (or longer). Some people have used an electric pad sander (with no paper, lol) on the lines to vibrate any trapped air upwards.
Another common issue is air trapped in the master itself. Priming the master before attaching the line(s) usually solves it. Good luck!

Finally finished the tank! I’ve got everything done except the rear light situation, and wrapping the rear fender. I took her out yesterday and the new tires and fork seals made a huge difference! Next is is that pesky back fender!

Re: 1983 goldwing project build.
The white vinyl wrap looks great on the side cover. Do you have a pic of the entire bike after wrapping?
Edit: for some reason the other pics didn't load. It looks great! Now I'm thinking about getting some 3M vinyl wrap in a cool color.
