Ready for anything!
I'm still having an issue with the clutch not fully disengaging. I'm wondering if I've got a few plates sticking together. I can feel it want to pull when going from neutral to first, and on the center stand (engine fully warmed up) with the bike in gear pulling the clutch will not stop the rear wheel from turning. I can stop it with the brake, but not by hand/ foot pressure. I've tried all combinations of adjustments, as far as I can tell...

Nice job Track T she looks great. The 78 that is getting my attention these days sat for 18 years without being ridden. Was having trouble with the clutch not allowing me to switch from 1st into neutral while stopped. I have noticed that after adjusting the clutch cable some and riding her for approx 100 miles the bike is quite a bit better and am hoping that if I get some more miles on that the problem will continue to improve. Thinking of a Seafoam treatment as well. Just a thought that the plates were sticking as well, but I am in no way a clutch guru!

I posted in the tech discussions about the clutch issue, which I would say is essentially solved. She needed some good exercise and another oil change.
Yesterday (Thursday) I loaded up some gear and headed out for a two hour ride to visit my expectant daughter and her family. Layla runs like a dream! Didn't miss a beat @70-75 mph all the way. It was excessively windy, with 20-25 mph cross winds, so anything over 80 mph was pretty much out of the question.

Today, I had the pleasure of giving my granddaughter her very first motorcycle ride!

So cool, remember giving my GD her first ever MC ride on my Valkyrie, not as young as yours but the same good feeling. My daughter had her first ride about 49 years ago on a much smaller bike (Yamaha 305). When we got home the gas cap was gone. She had twisted it loose and never to be found again. Always remember that ride and you will this one too. Great stuff.

Still a few odds and ends to work on. While the odometer seems accurate, the trip odometer is not. I haven't seen it actually happen, but it must have a snag somewhere that spins the 'tens' and 'hundreds' wheels at the same time. Either that or I'm getting great gas mileage, lol!
I haven't even synced the carbs or checked the plugs, she's running so well, but I'll try to get that done this week, along with bleeding the back brake again. It's very mushy. I did vacuum bleed it, but obviously not well enough. I'm probably going to have to play with the clutch adjustment some more, as well, as it's not quite right.

Keep us up on the trip meter efforts. My '79 has the same issue.

I've put just over 700 miles on Layla now, the last 500 during my little excursion over the weekend. Other than a few little details I've been to lazy to work on, she's pretty much done!
I must say I'm very happy with the outcome of this project. She runs like a dream, very smooth, and much quieter than Grumpy (he's running Jardine exhaust). The first time I ran her hard through the gears I thought I'd forgotten to install the air filter because I could actually hear the intake, lol.
On my trip I averaged 39 MPG, with a high of 42 MPG just rolling through the bluffs along the upper Mississippi. Worst was 37 MPG fighting a very strong cross- wind @ 70-75 MPH.
