I hear ya on that. No intention of selling anything OEM off my bike. The extra tins I have had already been custom painted so am going to do them a color I like rather than ghost flames! Will be hanging onto the OEM seat, tins etc. for sure. Just thought it would be fun to be able to change up the appearance from time to time.

Thanks for that 77 Gowing. My main man and helper Ian put a bit of a video together showing the build to date and I am posting it here more to thank him than trying to gather attention to my bike. Thanks bud you have helped make me a happy 78 owner. Hope if you fellow members have time to view it doesn't bore you. I had a great time this month.
Ian shortened the video timing to one tune length, hope you enjoy it half as much as I do. The opening shot is a gl1000 that I assembled from a basket too many years ago to count.

Jonesz,
Bored? That was great stuff by you and Ian. I love your attention to detail and how your bike came out real fine. On my bike, I left a lot of scuffs and discolored engine paint etc. You must have put a lot of hours in it. I just dont have the patience with making stuff turn from doudy to showroom shiney. But I admire those that do.
Bet it's fun to ride?

Keep at it. anim-cheers1 anim-cheers1

Sorry, I for some reason overlooked that you were in fact this months BOTM as you should be. I just forgot, guess I'm slippin a bit in the memory department. Love what you did with it after seeing what you did with her.
Trickster indeed.
Hope you had a great month.
Happy May day. Were hitting Cinco De Mayo in a couple O days and the temps are already in the 100s. That cold cerveisa is gonna go down good Tuesday.
Take care, enjoyed your drum beating and good on you.

Just caught myself up on this entire thread, from a fellow Manitoban. Very nice build! And quite similar to the process I've gone through with my '75. I'm currently building a polishing machine using a 1hp motor I scrounged up, so I should have all my aluminum bits gleaming like yours soon. Seeing how nice your engine looks has me motivated! Perhaps once that's done we'll have to meet up and do a little 'wing ride and photo!

Thanks for the comment and hope we meet up someday. I did find that the aluminum polishing was very rewarding. Make sure to strip the clear coat off before you try polishing and everything should go smoothly. I often used two 6" sisal wheels mounted side by side to give strength to my set up. Got all my stuff at Princess auto and rarely used anything but the reddish brown rouge. Make sure and use gloves (the items get very warm) and keep a tight grip and try not to catch edges. The pieces have a habit of grabbing when you least expect. Don't want to cause any blemishes that aren't already there. Also a good face mask or goggles and mask are needed as you end up breathing quite a bit of the fluff created as the wheels wear. Have fun and show us your results.
