All I ask for is that you plan this ride after the tax season ends. We could ride south to Tombstone. Or we could go north over the Mengus mountains through Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff and back Phoenix. That's a nice 400 mile ride. Or we could ride north to Bryce and Zion National Parks in Utah. The Utah ride is a multi day ride.

She's finally all back together and running. Took her out on her maiden voyage and noticed the rear brake was dragging and the left front fork seal started leaking. Not surprising after sitting for so many years. I decided to upgrade with fork springs with Race Tech springs and polish the forks while i was replacing the seals. Should be able to get to it in a couple of weeks. Thanks to Desert Refugee for all his help and to Hampster for his incredible work on drilling the rotors.

Still so jealous of this build! Beautiful and meticulous! And I 100% agree to polishing out the fork tubes! That will make a WORLD of difference!

Thanks for the kind words. Codyjames, BOTM is a feather in anyone's cap! I'm just taking a bike and refreshing to a stock condition. Not very creative, certainly nowhere near what I've seen guys do to their bikes on this site. That's what I thought I had bought, however when I saw the bike sitting in my cousin's garage, I knew I had to keep it stock (except for the drilled rotors). I'm keeping my eye open for a bike that I can modify to my hearts content.

Well the Race Tech springs have been replaced and the forks polished. I'm going to have the headers and mufflers ceramic coated black. I was considering a "chrome" ceramic coat for the headers and black for the mufflers but i decided black would keep it looking stock. I'll post final pictures once that work is finished.

As with anything that's 43 years old, things just don't work like they used to and that goes for the instrument cluster as well. The tach is very slow to respond. Once you let off the throttle it stays at 4,000 rpm even when they engine is idling and SLOWING goes down. And then there's the speedometer. The other day it wouldn't go past 73 even when I knew I was running about 80. The cool thing is that according to the speedometer I took the first round about on McKellips at 73 mph. So a friend of mine gave me the name of the Joel Levine Company in Lafayette GA that rebuilds all makes and models of gauges. He quoted me a price of $250 for the tachometer. Now that the speedometer is wonky it's probably double the original estimate. I don't know if anyone of this board has heard of Joel Levine or needs work on their gauges but I thought I would throw his name out there. Anyway I'm going to wait on the gauges until after the ceramic coating work is done. I don't hot rod the Wing so I won't be over revving the bike.

The adventure continues!

Ride Safe

The tach on my '78 behaves the same way. I can live with it as is, although I would be willing to disassemble and repair it if I know the cause. If someone here knows, I'm interested.

Your bike looks awesome - great job bringing it back to it's original and gorgeous condition. Thanks for sharing the whole process with us.

Nice Job Johnny#'s! Looks great, hope you enjoy her a lot. One question was wondering how my Valk got in the picture background. Don't see her on your bike list :-D :?:
