My plan is to do a "resto-mod" on it. Keep it as totally stock looking as can be, but upgrading/updating various things about it. As soon as I get it running, then I'll start converting it to EFI, and full electronic control of the engine via COP and crank triggering. No more of that cam ignition for it. Although it came with an electronic Dyna conversion, not sure if it works or not. I've got 2 other bikes so this is going to be more of a play toy.

Great deal, congrats. I though $200 for my current 75 project was a steal.

It's official, I'm now the owner of a 1977 GL1000. Time to get this baby started. Since the fuel tank is rather rusty, that will be my first project. Get it out of there and remove all rust via electrolysis. Then paint the outside and possibly coat the inside with POR15, although I'm reading lots of people stating that no coating is recommended, or required.

Very ambitious goal of FI and COP. I am not sure if that has been achieved and posted on here before on a GL1000 engine. I will be very interested in following your work on this one to see how it works out for you. Lots of single/dual carb conversions being done, yet moving the 70's carb/ignition tech into the 21 century will be quite an achievement.

Wishing you success with the project.

I can't say that I hate you because I've gotten at least a couple decent bikes for close to nothing. If you keep your eyes wide open long enough, a deal will pop up every blue moon or so. It also helps when you've been into certain bikes for a while and friends/family keep their eyes out for you too.

That looks like a nice, solid example - you're going to have fun with it. Congrats!
