I agree. I recently built a bobber out of an 01 Shadow that I had rescued from an abusive previous owner. It turned out nice but it was a 600 and not enough engine for me.5speed wrote:that has bobber written all over it..

There is a reason that Magna sat in a storage unit for almost 10 years. Not one of Honda's better rides. The early ones are even worse.

Re: 1975 GL1000 project, first Goldwing
I got some odds and ends installed this weekend while the tank is being de-rusted. I started cleaning up the swing arm and noted that the rear portion that mates with the final drive gear box was over packed with moly-b. I'm curious if that is normal as this is my first shaft-driven bike... seems like too much.

I got off my lazy butt and looked at the book (Clymer) and it says to pack 2 oz and that there isn't a Zerk on the 75s. I'm pretty sure there was more than 2 oz in this one. It was a little watery too so I'm going to look at the input seal on the gearbox as wellRAT wrote:Lots of folks use it .... some manuals call for it .... some don’t .... others say it’s not necessary ....

Take the circlip off, pull the coupler and the driveshaft out. That will make it easier to clean. And you will get a better look at those two pieces.

Had to dig all that out to even see the circlip. Got everything cleaned up and the swingarm stripped and ready for paint.robin1731 wrote:Take the circlip off, pull the coupler and the driveshaft out. That will make it easier to clean. And you will get a better look at those two pieces.

Re: 1975 GL1000 project, first Goldwing
Got the tank, swing arm, harness and shelter back in over the last few nights. The drag bars are just on for the time being as I had them laying around, I haven't decided what to go with just yet. I put the plastics on so I can start visualizing a color to go with. Up next are my 2 most favorite things... carbs and tires , yay...

Clean carbs!
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Yes sir. Took all night then I got them installed. Waiting on tires and oil and I should be able to fire her up. Then I have to decide colors for the plastics and finish my seat.ericheath wrote:Clean carbs!

Re: 1975 GL1000 project, first Goldwing
Trying to get the wheels reassembled and back on the bike tonight. I built up the front wheel with the 2 rotors, the spacer, speedo adapter assembly and then installed the drive shaft. When I torqued the nut onto the driveshaft, it seems to be too tight as I can barely turn the speedo adapter around to line it up on the forks. Does this sound right?
