Re: 1977 barn find
Today I started powder coating.
[img] [/img] Over the last couple of weeks I have been getting what I needed to do it and today I did four parts. First part was a modified tach drive housing I did in silver, then a pair of muffler brackets for the 79, then I did my second manifold for the single carb on the 77. I could not find anyone locally to do powder coating that did not want to gouge me so now I can do it myself.
It is easy to do, The only time consuming part is the prep work in the blast cabinet.
Now that I finally have the manifold done I will get the carb on the bike and do some road testing of the single carb setup. If it tests OK I just might start to produce some manifolds for sale................ Stay tuned, more to come.

I also got the radiator put back in and everything tight.
I still have to mount the carb and hook up the cables.

Looks great! You're making me want a powder coating set-up.
I might suggest that you thoroughly remove the coating from the inside of the fork clamps, as well as the area where the handle bars get clamped. Both areas require metal to metal contact for proper function. Just saying...

Re: 1977 barn find
I got my oven at a habitat for humanity restore for 50 dollars. the guns are cheap, I got the eastwood dual voltage gun for a little over a hundred and the powder is relatively cheap as well. I get mine from powderbythepound.com and after doing half a dozen parts I have only used about five dollars worth of powder. The one thing is that you really need to abrasive blast the parts first to give the powder a good surface to stick to. I already had a blast cabinet so that part was easy. I learned quickly to preheat the parts first to outgas them for a smooth finish. The prep work is the hardest part.

Re: 1977 barn find
It's been very slow going as it is winter here and I have been doing other things like school and life. I did manage to make the air breather housings for the single carb conversion. I printed them with a 3d printer and they look and work great. The first one is red because that's all the PETG filament I have but a roll of black is on the way and I will reprint another set for the 79.

I’m feeling left behind.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
