Got a little bit done today, I decided to just use the cam I have for now and do without a tach or use a electronic tach so I made a block off plate.

Also I need to ask what torque setting for the six bolts that hold the rocker arms on.

Also the timing belt gears have one raised section pointing to the rear and the other raised section pointing to the front??? It has got to be right as I have rotated the crank through several rotations and no problems yet. I also installed a new battery so as soon as I get the new intake manifold made I can think about starting it up. And yes I did put oil in.

217-252 inch pounds for the cam holders. (18-21ft lbs) Adjust valves after tightening to spec.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks, I went with 220 inch pounds. Will be adjusting the valves tomorrow. Then on to making another manifold. I already have the mounting plate made and the pipes cut so it should go fast.
I found a electronic honda tach on one of my scrapper bikes but that means no temp gauge. I will get one from a 78.

I just checked and the other tach I had was a cable driven tach... I have one more but it's from a 83 or 84 interstate and is completely different. Something good will happen if I am patient.

Lots of other makes will also work, but some (Kawasaki) used a different ratio and will make the tach read higher than it actually is.

These 2 pulleys are actually the same, according to the parts listing. Part #14 on the drawing below.
If you look into it, they are the same pulleys used on early Civic, Accord and Prelude too.
Honda never made a special part if they had one already for another vehicle.

Incidentally, www.cmsnl.com have a new website which is fantastic for cross referencing parts.

I while ago I replied to a thread on a Facebook group I was a member of where a guy had bought a pair of pulleys from a breaker.
The breaker supplied 2 pulleys which were identical and the poster was complaining about the fact that the breaker had told him they were a pair.
He was ridiculing them for being so stupid and a lot of other posters were agreeing with him, including the page owner.
I pointed out that the pulleys were indeed the same and sent a link to the above page on CMSNL.
The guy then turned on me and accused me of trying to Jerry Rig his engine.
Needless to say, I moved on from there.

I appreciate your reply as it confirmed my suspicions. Hopefully soon I will have a good running bike.

Be aware that some pulleys have two timing marks, one for Goldwings and the other for a different application. This pic is from a 1200 pulley, but they are sometimes found on 1100 and 1000 pulleys. Using the wrong one could cause interference.

BTW, all pulleys from gl1000, 1100, 1200’s can interchange. The 1200 pulleys are a bit lighter in weight.

Exactly the same thing happened to me (cam fell on concrete floor) on the "Dumpster build", used a digital tach and fuel pump from a GL1200. On a more recent 1200 build I used an after-market pump that I like a lot, at about half the price for a Honda 1200 pump. If you are interested I can track it down for you. I think I identified it on the "All it needs is a battery and maybe a carb clean" build thread. In both cases the fuel pump info will be near the end of the build thread. You should include a relay in the circuit that only calls for fuel when the engine is turning over.

And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair

This is actually the second bike this year I have used 1200 pumps on. I did a 79 just about a month or so ago. I got the pumps on ebay for cheap https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fuel-Pump- ... 2749.l2649
and so far they work really well.
Time of course will tell but so far so good.
I set the valves today and rotated the engine by hand a couple of revs and nothing hits yet.
Now I am waiting for the paint to dry on the valve covers and the belt covers.
