Yeah, not normal. That took a pretty good hit to cause that. Other side the same way? If it does track straight I guess it's ok but I would sure worry about it for awhile.

Yeah... the deeper I dig the more I find. Seems now the front brakes are dragging. The guy I bought it from claims he cleaned them up and flushed them... Sigh...

after rereading your original post and seeing the bent frame..it looks like the seller installed the fairing to hide the damage.
Do you have any recourse where you live in regards to getting your money back?

I don't think the guy I bought it from even knew about the dented frame. He bought it last fall as a project bike, but decided he had too many (3 bikes in various stages of resto/mod right now), so he sold this one to me. I'm sure he'd give me my money back, but I got a pretty good deal, so I think I'll keep it. I'll check for straightness, may do a bit of welding to reinforce, or possibly find another frame. We'll see where this takes me over the weekend as I dig further. Belts are at the post office, so in we go!

Now, this looks like just a blown shock seal, right? Research shows me that I can rebuild the shocks cheaply, which is in the plan. But do you see anything about the pumpkin that may indicate seal problems there? Here's another shot:

The stain on the pumpkin looks like just a shock seal leak to me. Once you get the pumpkin cleaned up, you'll know more, but they aren't prone to leaking.

unless you own my 78. One of the previous owners some how managed to break the fill plug so being the hill billy he was (I knew him) he carved a plug out of pine and jammed it in the hole.
