I did get a chance to do some work. Wire brushed all the bad spots on the frame. I also started sanding all the Tupperware. When I painted this bike 25-30? years ago, I did a candy apple two tome blue with lacquer with a urethane clear coat. Any of you who have painted know that all the urethane must be removed or it will lift when you try to repaint. So after wet sanding and then allowing to dry I looked for spots that still had clear coat. A black marker helps me see where I need more work once it is wet again.

not a lot... but as I mentioned I candied it 30 years ago and the lacquer has to have the urethane removed... I only bought this bike 41 years ago :roll:

Roger,

Isn't there another modern paint/primer option that can be shot over a urethane clearcoat without the need to sand it all off? A body shop supply place will be able to give you the definitive word on what can be done.
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

I do not believe so if it is over lacquer. Over an enamel would not be an issue. But the solvents get in to the lacquer and then it lifts the urethane. Not an issue anymore as lacquer is a thing of the past. too many VOC
