There is rub-on gold leaf available at craft stores that might hold up to clear coating.

Maybe I can paint one of them.
They are difficult to find on ebay or elsewhere.
Liam, did you try to contact badgereplicas.com.au?

Paola, I have never heard of them. I looked on their website and they do seem to have what I need.
This is fantastic. Thank you so much for that.

a small question to all of you, somewhere I had read that only 500 of the yellow GLs were produced in 1976, is that true? where can I find confirmation of this news?

There has never been a place/way to know the number of yellows built. The only model with something like that is the LTD. Back when new the yellow did not sell very well. A lot of dealers repainted the yellow bikes.

I will say I bet the number was a lot more than 500 though. ;)

Some yellows sat on dealer floors for well into the 77 model year. As said above, lots of dealers painted the tins red or black to sell the bikes. Also, at some point, Mother Honda supplied red tins for change out!

Thanks to both of you for the answers. you mentioned the LTD, I have one from 1976, in Italy it seems that only 5 arrived, I know two of the original ones, the other three, perhaps they have been abandoned. then I give three more imported from Germany and France (like mine that I bought in France, in Cannes, and the owner, a wealthy businessman, now deceased, told me that with this LTD he took a walk on the beaches of the French Riviera, and in the refreshing Brigitte Berdot, he wrote me a confirmation letter, also specifying that, unfortunately, he has always remained only a friend, but never a lover) and I always have the curiosity to know how many LTD have been exactly produced. initially there was talk of 200, to celebrate the 200 years of Independence (4 July 1776-4 July 1976), then I had read that the LTD produced were 1200, an article in a French magazine said about 2000, and recently they told me that in a book on GL, we write about over 3000 LTD produced.

Today I had a go at painting the yellow bits.

I painted the radiator side scoops black first, and then added some 3mm fine line masking tape.

Went over the lot with some fine sandpaper to give the yellow paint a key.
Then I painted over the whole lot with the yellow, in several light coats.

Before it dried completely I removed the tape, and I was left with a black line.
The line is not crooked as it appears in the picture. My phone camera is not so good.
