Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
When I bought the bike there was only 1 key, which was not an original.
I took it in to a key cutting place and got a copy made, but it was not right.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
While I had the ignition lock off during the strip down, I got the number of the lock.
I found a seller in the USA on Ebay selling original Honda keys, and he had a list of what was available numbers wise.
Lo and behold he listed my key number, 20897, so I ordered 2.
They arrived and they are original Honda TEC keys, and they work perfectly.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
A few weeks ago I bought this shelter lid from Canada which looked good in the pictures
but on closer inspection it had been painted over the top and the colour was not that close a match.
It did come with fuel gauge and a lock and key and also the small infill piece in front of the seat.
There are a few areas where the top coat has been scrubbed away and you can see the original paint underneath.
I will bring this back to the original first and see what it is like, maybe I will repaint it.

This is the infill piece. Again it needs to be painted.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
I got some paint mixed today from a supplier, but I thought it is not even close to right colour to look at it.
I put a small spot onto one of the parts and it is pretty much spot on.
Happy Days.

I've had a few of those experiences over the years with ebay. Pictures hide a lot of things so when you get the actual item it doesn't look quite like what you ordered.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
I have not had the bike running as yet, but the previous owner said he ran it a few times. I tried to crank it after putting in a fresh battery, but got no dash lights. I found the main fuse had blown. I put in a new fuse and turned the key on I got lights, but when I pressed the starter button all lights went out. Fuse had blown again. I went investigating and found the wiring loom had been bodged. I knew the engine was free as I could turn it with the kick start, and the engine could crank with they starter motor as I bypassed the solenoid to check it. I figured it was best to sort out the wiring loom and find the fault, then an oil change and new timing belts before I attempt to start it. Only problem is when you go to fix one thing you find another that needs fixing and then another and another.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
While I had everything off, I had a clear run at removing the carburetors.
I want to have a look and see what kind of shape they are in and how badly gummed up they must be.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
The inlet port in #4 cylinder seems to be black inside. What could cause that?

The carbs themselves are dirty outside as expected, but look to be in good shape.

They are all 758A which is correct for the year, no reason to suspect they are anything but the originals.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
There is no sign of butchery, all the screws seem to be original. They have been opened before
as whoever did them marked them, as it turns out correctly by the cylinder number.
This is evidence for me that whoever was in here before knew something about 4 cylinder wings.
A good sign, maybe, or maybe not.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
Taking off the bowls revealed this. Not the worst I have ever seen.

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
The bowls themselves have a bit of residue, it is powdery and wipes away easily.
Again I have seen much worse.
