Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
Good reading your posts again, Liam. I must admit...I had never read the first 6 pages of this thread, so last night, while you were sleeping, with visions of a "Sulpher Yellow 76" in yo dreams, I was reading, studying, and contemplating this build. I am impressed with your "attention to detail", and equally impressed with your desire to be better than good. My hats off to ya. Glad you got back on track. Now get busy!!!

Re: Yellow Peril Fixer Upper
Well I am back on track with this baby. Got sidetracked for a while I did a big refurb on a GL1800. Long story.
Anyway, I turned my attention to the back end. There is quite a bit of corrosion, not serious stuff, but it all still needs attention.

I plan on taking off the rear wheel to check it out and do some fettlin' and fixin'
Same with the exhaust, and the swing arm. I will take out the fuel tank too and give it a proper painting.

Here are the results of the back wheel removal exercise.
Splines look good, spokes are a bit rusty. I will have a think about what to do with the spokes.

Rear brake caliper needs attention too, and a new brake pipe as the rubber is cracked.

Took off the exhaust system. At first it seemed quite good.

Unfortunately I found that when it was off the right hand header was seperated from the muffler.

A repair some time in the past was to put a piece of tube with a smaller diameter inside.
It wasnt welded or anything.

When I turned the muffler over, I saw this patch.
It just peeled back to reveal this.

No rest for the wicked on this baby. Some welding to be done, not the end of the world.
I have another exhaust system that needs repairs, so I will do the 2 together.

Some stuff had to be gotten out of the way to remove the fuel tank.

After a lot of fiddly stuff, the tank is out.
