The more you know, the more you know you don’t know—— Dawned on me in my thirties and was quite humbling . Now that I’m double that age, no longer able to crank out five minute miles, play basketball all day, I realize the fact that you can ALWAYS learn more- is the one of the best parts about life.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Hi everyone!

I have been busy busy busy at work with the pickup of the summer season, so my apologies for the lack of normally prompt weekend posts.

I have done a ton and will let the photo's speak for themselves. At this point it is just a matter of continuing on taking all the old paint / rust / grime off the old frame to prep for fresh paint.

Once the frame is all set to go and painted I will begin the task of meticulously hand picking and restoring each part of the bike.

I played with some caliper paint at work and it came out great. I plan on using this for all of the calipers once I finish the frame.

Stay tuned as more progress is on the way :)

The summer season has the shop crazy busy so I have fallen behind on the project unfortunately, but I made a ton of progress today.

I have stripped the frame almost all the way down to bare metal. Tomorrow I will be pulling the swing arm and triple tree to do the final prep for paint.

Spoke with Randakk on instagram and he suggested using High Temperature Brake Caliper Paint for the frame or to get it powder coated.

Anyone have a recommendation for a paint type/brand and/or method for a good, durable frame paint?

Looking good! I haven't any experience with it, but I know a couple of people on the forum have used epoxy based paint for their frames. Less expensive and easier to touch up if need be than powder coating. I have had good experiences with prefer coating, as well.

I have tried eastwoods frame paint.... what I am not impressed with is that it takes a long time to set, even with the catalyst. I also tried a low VOC paint that sets by humidity.... same issue a long time to set (and miserable to clean up, especially the little that got on my hands (sweat made it stick like... well stick). I mention the set time as it allows lots of dust and bugs time to alight.

Hello everyone,

After nearly a year I am back and ready to attack the wing. I have been through major life changes which got in the way of working on the bike, one being that I no longer work at a shop. I loved being a motorcycle tech but was thrown into a management position that eventually was breeding a resentment for motorcycles. Once that feeling began I knew it was time to quit.

I now work at a little coffee shop and am apprenticing to become a coffee roaster on a 1950s Austrian made roaster. I love the new job and am very happy about the change.

After quitting the shop I had the same depression as one has when they have just gone through a break up. I didn't want anything to do with wrenching or motorcycles at all. Finally I have come to a point where I want to wrench on this project again and have hit the ground running.

I had 90% of the frame stripped and was going to attempt to paint it myself, but I do not have the time nor the desire to expend all the effort. My new boss knows a guy in my neighbor hood (literally 2 blocks away) that will powder coat the frame / center stand / triple tree / various other little bits on the cheap.

I spent today tearing the rest of the frame apart and bagging up the hardware. Removed the forks, triple tree, swingarm and separated the final drive from the swingarm. Tomorrow I will drop it off for sand blasting and come back to tape everything off once it has been fully stripped. After that it is getting a gloss black powder coating.

As always here are pictures of the progress. Hoping to have the bike done this summer :) Stay tuned

Sweet! Glad to see you back at it! I was just thinking about what might have happened to you the other day, lol! Sucks how sometimes the greatest job turns sour. Good luck in your new endeavor!

Hello again everyone! It has been a long time since I've posted and I will fully admit I sold off all my Goldwings and am no longer perusing these or any 2 wheeled projects. To the admin: If this post goes against the community guidelines please take it down and my apologies.

For those who enjoyed seeing my posts and work I'd like to share my youtube channel where I am currently restoring a 1973 Grumman Olson Step Van into my tiny home and mobile recording studio. The Grumman Olson has Chevy 292 with a Muncie SM465. Much like the Goldwing my van has weird quirks and charms and I feel a lot of people who enjoy the content posted here would enjoy the Grumman as well.

My youtube channel is youtube.com/aaronrecine

I hope everyone is well and am very glad to see this site as well as Randakk's shop are still up and running.
