My 1976 GL1000 Bobber
Man it's been ages since I last posted. Long over due, but made tons of progress on this bike. Since last posting, swapped new motor in. Setup dual double barrel weber IDF-40 carbs. Few other fun bits. Anyways, on with some pics.
When I bought it:
Then I did all this stuff....
Then last year summer i changed it up some more...
And if any of you are wondering how much work is involved to make tanks like this work on a goldwing...
Makin progress. Made front brackets, and rigged up a removable sort of bracket in the rear of the tanks that keeps the tanks together at the rear. The front brackets are held in by a clevis pin/bolt. The whole concept is that if I were to break down on the side of the road and I need to get under the tanks or remove them (to fix wiring and replace fuse) that it would be easy to remove/lift the tanks.
Now that that's all good, I'm going to pick up some sort of bearings/similar to place between the front brackets and the frame. Should keep the front mount tight, while still able to pivot freely.
New headlight and bars. Minor stuff, but I think I finally landed on some bars that suit this bike. Loved the look of the clip ons but i could hardly turn the thing with em on.
And a video to demonstrate the purpose of the mounts. (loosely)

And finally the latest finished product:

Nice build, nice solutions, I like it, exactly my style. I probably had mounted the clip on lower. But then it touches maybe the tank.

Holy smokes. Not for the faint of heart. Lotta work there. Very nicely executed.

Exxxcellent. I love it.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

...by the way, those look like the trumpet mufflers on my old '71 Bonneville. Bet they are trumpets!

You’d be correct. They are off of an old bonnie.desertrefugee wrote:...by the way, those look like the trumpet mufflers on my old '71 Bonneville. Bet they are trumpets!
