1982 1100A

Got a free used 1982 GL1100A, that I’m in the process of getting running and then customizing. Not 100% sure yet how I’m going to customize it, thinking of striping it down, chopping it a bit, and blacking it out. So far, I’ve replaced the starter and pulled the carbs to rebuild. Just got Randakks kit, hope to rebuild on Saturday. Didn’t take any pics before I dug right in, so the one I’m posting is already torn apart. Next up is plugs and timing belt.

Anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the exterior of the carbs, and the engine?

Anyone have a good suggestion for rounded out heads on the cover screws for the carburetor? I have tried getting a pair of vice grips on the outside but the screws just seem to be soft. Any idea where to get replacements if i can get them off?

Can you get a dremel with a diamond grinding wheel in there to cut a slot big enough for a large flat blade screwdriver?

Most Honda bolts and screws for at least the last 35 years are still available, unless they're really a special size, or dedicated usage.

In case you haven’t read or heard this Honda used JIS screws and are different than Philips screws. The right driver makes a big difference. If someone’s already jammed them up, it’s whatever works.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Quick update, Timing belts replaced, carbs rebuilt and reinstalled. Hoping to do the fuel lines and fuel filter in the next week or so. Anyone have any suggestions on a washable filter and where to get it? I was hoping to get the one from Randakks but it appears as it’s unavailable.

I used the exact same one. It even fit in the factory bracket, which was a nice bonus. Under $10 too.
