Yes, it is a powder that melts and creates an enamel. This powder only needs 150°C to bake so it should be good with aluminium.

Isn't that the standard "powder coat" process?

Well, yes. When you say it like that it seemes to be just like powder coating. Very hard to get even coverage though. Next experiment will be to mix the powder with water, smear it on evenly, put it in the oven at 60-70°C to vaporize the moist and then bake it on higher temperature.

I made four tries today. First one got too much powder, second one too much heat, third and fourh got good heat and powder but too uneven.

This coming weekend will be time for painting or at least the epoxy primer. I’m turning the metal shop into a pintbox by setting up a 3x3m party tent inside. The welding fan will work as ventilation, some filters to draw clean air into the tent. Hope it works out. I’m starting to get used to do things over again due to failure so I’m not worried...

My students were very self suficient today so I could do some work on my own little fork brace projekt. I made myself a ruff mock up in aluminium the other day and tried it on the bike. It fit OK but looked awful so todays work was cosmetics. I reshaped the bridge part to make it less bulky and then sanding, sanding, sanding before the pilishing wheel. Came out alright...

Paint time!

I got my temorary paint booth set up this afternoon and have started the painting process. Three layers of epoxi primer is done and the rest will get shot on sunday. Hopefully everything goes as planned with this. A few pieces of garbage ended up in the primer this time. When I'm painting the base coat I need a better result.

Paint day 2!

Base coat and clear. This is hard, tireing and a bit fun too. I think I got the base coat pretty even so the clear coat looks really good so far. Leaving it in the paint booth til tomorrow to cure and then I know for real. First paint job for me, exhausting...!

Painting is done!

Painting the bike myself was an interesting idea, you kind of see yourself laying down a smooth, perfect finish without any flaws. I’ve seen people spray painting and it looks loke dancing in the spray booth, relaxed and satisfyed. I don’t know if it is just me, but I get nervous and tense when
I get the painting gear set up. As a newbie I don’t feel like the people I’ve seen painting on youtube!

Anyway, it’s done now. Buffed and polished with brand new decals ( not at all satisfying while doing it due to the price of decals :-? ).
But, when it was all done and time for mounting all new pieces back on the bike all hard, nervous work turned into total satisfaction. I felt like a superstar, almost like a professional bike builder!

At the moment carbs are out again due to a leakage from the gasked between the plenum halves. Fuel ouzes up into the plenum chamber, also tested with compressed air through the fuel lines while testing the float needle seats. New gasket is on its way.

A list of small things to be fixed after that, a little pile of pieces that came of the bike that probably has to go somewhere, ( I’ll take a picture and maybe you guys can help me with the adress), then i is just about 1,5 meters of snow left before I can get the MOT and start riding my beautiful motorcycle for the first time.

Thank you!

One step further. I’ve chased gremlins and found out that the diod for neutral light was letting current go any way it wanted. Clutch in = neutral light on. So, instead of buing a new one from Honda I bought a simple diod from an elektronic store, 1N5401. Cost is about nothing, and ten in a package is still round about nothing. Easy install with a pair of male connectors. I emptied the broken diod cover with a dremel and will install the new diod inside, just for the looks. I’ll be back with more pictures later.

Yet another step!

A new 7v regulator got built using a lm317, a 390ohm and 1800ohm resistor. Input is everything from 9v to 14.5v, while output is steady at 7v.
